Thank you very much for your reply. I haven't done another suppository since my post, and she still hasn't gone. Her mood is good, so I'll wait another day or so. She eats sooo much that she really does make me worried when she doesn't poop every day. =(
I tried a tummy massage twice yesterday, we did bicycling of her legs lots, and we had a long bath last night.
Even with this going on, I went ahead and started sleep training her two nights ago. She cried for 35 minutes the first night, with me going in at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 10 minutes. Last night she cried about 6 minutes, with me going in at 4 and 6 minutes. Naps are actually taking place in the crib now and things are much happier around here. I'm doing the Ferber method, but with shorter time intervals to start. 5, 10, 15, 15 seemed way too long for me.
My DD is 6 months old, is on 3 cereal/fruit or veggie meals a day supplemented with various fruit I eat, puffs, extra water with 1/5 apple juice, and is breastfed throughout the day. (I was very hesitant to start juice, but she wouldn't drink straight water and I was worried that she wasn't drinking enough.)
Last Sunday was the last day she had a BM on her own. On Tuesday night she was fairly fussy, so we used a 1/2 a baby glycerin suppository to move things along. She had 4 huge BM's within 20 minutes. They were all very soft, definately not "pebbles" that are described with true constipation. The last BM I could see the prune bits from the pureed prunes I fed her Monday night and Tuesday morning.
She had her 6 month vaccines on Wednesday, and did fantastic. No extra fussing and didn't even cry when she got it. (My trooper!)
Friday afternoon we decided to do another suppository, and we got 2 average BM's in 5 minutes, again, relatively soft. Lots of prune bits again.
Today she's been super fussy so I did another suppository and I only got one small BM with a bit of mucous in it.
Each meal she gets about 2 tbsp of oatmeal or rice cereal (fluffs up to about 3 tbsp when prepared) with an equal amount of a veggie or fruit. Because of what's been going on, I've backed off on the cereal a bit, and am using apples, pears, prunes and apricots to try to speed things along. She eats like there's no tomorrow and usually gets mad when I show her the empty bowl.
She's relatively happy and is not dehydrated, so I will call our health unit on Monday if she still hasn't gone on her own. (We don't have pediatricans (sp?) in our small town.)
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything I'm missing that I could be doing?View Thread
I was getting stressed with my DD at 5 months when she went over 60 hours without a poop. She is breastfed but I started rice cereal twice a day since about 4 months She usually went at the very least every 24-36 hours. I added a little bit of prunes to her cereal and she pooped within a few hours, prune bits and all.... don't ask me how lol. I've heard that pears help too, although they haven't had such an effect as the prunes for us.View Thread
I wish I had that problem. My baby girl got her first tooth at 4 1/2 months and is now working on her 4th tooth 3 weeks later. I was talking to a co-worker who said her daughter got her first tooth at about 5 months, but her son didn't get any until 14 months. The doctors were talking about "cutting his gums" surgically but didn't have to thank goodness. She said that her daughter has braces and has lots of cavities, her son has fantastic teeth and never had a cavity. I thought it might have been an old wives tale, but I think there's merrit to it.
Be happy, odds are her teeth will better the later they come in. View Thread
I flew with my DD when she was 13 weeks old. I was nervous too, but I nursed her 20 minutes before the flight and she fell asleep in the cozy carrier. The flight was even late and she stayed asleep through take off and we had levelled off and I was just going to get a water when she woke up. She fussed a bit, I nursed her for a bit, then she proceeded to stand on my lap the next 25 minutes and stare at the other passengers. On landing, she just snuggled into my chest and the only time she cried was when I was trying to put her back into the cozy carrier to get off the plane.
The stewardess said I had to have her in the burping position for take off and landing. I wasn't allowed to nurse her at those times she said. I'm sure she would have changed her mind if my DD had been screaming lol.
I was pleasantly surprised how well it went. Don't sweat it.View Thread
I started our LO out with rice cereal at 4 months. I'm breastfeeding, so I only give her cereal once a day, usually at suppertime. She's had pears, sweet potatoes, apples, green beans, and butternut squash. I add a spoonful of what I have open to her cereal. I've been waiting 3 days in between each new taste. She has made a couple faces, but eats away. Next is carrots, then peaches. We don't have a pediatrician in our area, and our family doctor that we finally managed to find doesn't do a whole lot with babies. Most of our info comes from the health nurses that give the scheduled vaccinations. Health Canada recommends waiting until 6 months too, but our LO was following our utensils and grabbing out for them, so we started her earlier and she's loving it.View Thread
I haven't heard anything, but I'm going to keep an eye on this thread for a Dr. response. I wish my little one had waited until 8 months to get a tooth. I can't believe she popped the first tooth at 19w3d and the second at 19w6d. We were lucky with her only being a little cranky and not even realizing that she popped a tooth until later in the day when she gummed my finger and I noticed. I didn't use any tylenol or orajel for this round, but I'm sure it will be needed for future teeth.View Thread
I was having trouble at night, she'd drain me and wouldn't go to sleep without some more. I used "milkmaid's tea" which has fenugreek, but of course they flavored it with fennel. I'm not a big black licorice fan. =( Once I was done the tea I started just straight fenugreek capsues. I ony did the tea for a week and the capusules for about 5 days. Since that I seem to have a better supply. The only thing that I found bad was the burps for about 3-4 hours after taking the capsule. I tried with and without food, it still tasted terrible either way.View Thread
