It actually is sandy, so it's not to hard to work, but we do have a tiller. We are a bit lucky because we live next to a creek so it's the brown sand. Most of the area around here has red clay and it is heck on carpets, and worse for plants.
My college degree is in Agricultural and Bioresource Engineering and drip irrigation was something I studied quite a bit. I was a student employee for an Ag Research Service Water Managment Unit and we did irrigation and precision watering research. It's really the best way to go if you have the time to keep it maintained.View Thread

Here is an updated photo of my garden from this morning, I tried to get the same shot as I posted a month ago.
Here you can see the full length of the garden, at the far end is a lot of tomatoes, peppers and the green beans.
A close up of my first Anaheim chile of the year!View Thread

My co-worker and I were discussing that when he was a kid he used to like to suck on the lead sinkers because they were sweet, little kids don't know any better! The whole sinker need not be ingested to be dangerous, they have lead powder on them that can also get on your hands as you work with them and be ingested inadvertently if not washed off properly before eating.
There are many lead free alternatives so look out for them. Usually a good way to determine if a product has lead is it will have the California warning: "WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm." Lead free products usually also boast about that characteristic.View Thread

It's finally coming together, we have had unusually cold weather, so I lost about 5-6 tomato and pepper plants after the average last frost date! I need to replant those, but the remaining ones are starting to grow. I have a TON of cilantro and arugula. The green beans are poking through the soil. The green onions are going to seed. I have a few radishes and carrots growing, the peas are about to be ready for harvest. My cherry tomato plant that is in a pot in the house is taller than me now and I have eaten 2 tomatoes and there are a bunch ready to ripen. I hope to plant some watermelon and pumpkin seeds tomorrow morning.
2. How is potty-training coming along?
He is 16 M so we have not started to try
3. What's LO's temperament these days?
So long as he is well rested he is great. He gets pretty grumpy when tired, but is still pretty happy. Someone just asked me if he is ever unhappy because he is all smiles when they see him.
4. How do you handle discipline?
Redirecting still works pretty good. He is starting to kind of get "no", but doesn't always obey.
5. What new eco-friendly thing are you up to these days?
I can't really think of much new just still recycling, using cloth grocery bags, composting, organic gardening, and using natural products as much as possible.
6. Have any exciting plans for the summer?
Nothing really official, we just got back from Iowa for a family visit over Memorial Weekend. My IL's are talking about coming out for the Powwow that the Tribe I work for holds in August, so we are considering leaving DS with them and going on a mini-vacation just DH and I, possibly to see the Maze in Canyonlands NP. The decoupage idea made me think that I could do a family picture book too. None of our family live close by so I could help teach DS about his relatives with a book with their pictures and names. This type of book would be tougher than letting him flip through a photo album.View Thread

Now I want to go to a craft store to look for some, they would also make a great gift!View Thread
