about me: i'm 28, male, smoke 1 pack a day, drink socially, have very bad teeth
daily meds: paxil, buspar, zyrtec
i have no insurance right now and can't afford to go to the doctor, otherwise i would. i know that you'll likely tell me to go have i checked out, but that's not an option right now, and i was really just hoping that someone might have an idea of what it is from what i've described and if i did something really bad by poking it. on the plus side, it actually does bother me a lot less since i poked it, like it relieved some pressure or something. thank you in advance for any help that you might be able to offer me.View Thread
I ask this because I have heard that it will take at least a week to heal, but it can cause bleeding if you run or get bumped around within the first month of the surgery. I just didn't know what was true in this case or when it will be actually safe to take him on this trip. Thanks for your help.

One on the bottom left side, developed some pain recently, and
had decay. I also have a very nice porcelain crown presently on that
wisdom tooth. My dentist is very good, he is older and likes to preserve
teeth if possible. I am scared to have it removed, since I am older
and have had quite a few surgeries, knees etc. in the last 7 years, and
hate surgery and pain, ha! He recently put sedation in that tooth,
and removed the extensive decay he found.
the first time didn't work, but this last time has worked to calm the nerve
down. I will cancel the extraction plan for now, but if the pain continues
to go away would it be wise to have a filling in that wisdom tooth, rather
than going for another crown, since I do not really know for sure whether the pain will come back and I will need a future extraction?

My 2nd to last lower left molar needs to be extracted due to a failed root canal last year. The broken tooth has been like this for a good year or so now. It has been slightly bothering me lately, so I went to see my dentist on Monday. He said it does not look infected, just inflammed. It does look slightly irritaed around it, kinda swollen around it, but nothing of a serious swelling or drastic. I am heading out of town on vacation on Thursday, so I am going to have him look at it one more time before I go. I am too nervous to have it pulled 3 days before I go on vacation, I am terrified of having a dry socket develop while I am away. He said if it continues to swell or becomes infected, I would start antibiotics and then have it pulled.
If by chance it starts to get infected while I am on vacation, and I start the antibiotics, will the meds help heal it until I get it pulled on 6/3 or wold it be recommended to have it pulled a certain amount of days after having the antibiotics started?
Another question I have is it is not visible sight, therefore I was not having any plans to replace it with a implant. He said the two teeth on the sides of it are virgin teeth, so he recommends a bone grafting until I get an implant. 1) If I get a grafting and I choose never to replace it, is that OK? 2) I am really uncomfortable with using a human bone grafting, kinda freaks me out with diseases and all, are there ever issues/complications due to this?
Thank you so much for all your help!View Thread

A couple of days ago I noticed swelling in one of my glands under my left jaw. Just recently I checked my throat and saw this white dot. However, is seems to be a part of my tongue as the second picture shows. Does anyone know what this could be? It developed on the opposite side of the swelling, and there is no pain or discomfort when I swallow.View Thread
I have had tingling sensation under my right lip for about a month. I feel like I have excess saliva and I drool. Told my dentist and he didn't see anything inside my mouth. It's driving me crazy. Any suggestions?View Thread
I also need a crown on the opposite side of my mouth and forward a bit, as another tooth is cracked, but fortunately not the wisdom tooth.
Thoughts? If I have one pulled I would have to have the other three removed correct? Currently I am experiencing sensitivity to hot and cold. He mentioned that it would be about an hour and a half to have both crown done at once...it will cost almost $4000.00..
What to do?View Thread
especially when I really have no idea if this will work for me; if I should wait a few more years...View Thread

Gastroenterologist gave my Nystatin. That didn't resolve it.
Dentist says it's not geographic tongue as there are not smooth areas.
ENT took swab and said no fungus (candida). He gave me Peridex. Still not resolved.
Pulmonologist ordered CT scan of sinuses and the radiologist reported mild thickening on the sinus cavities.
I've tried it all. tongue scraping. violeta genciana. Peroxide. Salt water rinse. Sinus rinse. I can't get rid of it. I've even heard of people saying pines nuts cause this (I don't eat them though!) Can anyone shed any light on this.
I've attached a picture.
Fast forward about a year and half, my tooth started aching, up until that point, the tooth was fine, only sensitive to extreme hot or cold, but no different than some of my other teeth. The aching was so bad and radiated through the left side of my mouth that I could not tell if it was the crowned tooth or the rear most lower left tooth. The tooth was very sensitive to cold and warm, not just extremes. Called the dentist, was prescribed an antibiotic (Z Pack) and pain killer (Tylenol with Codene) over the phone and had an emergency appointment. My dentist thought it was an abscess. When she saw me she saw that it was not an abscess and recommended that I stay on the antibiotic and painkiller and recommended an Endontist who treated her husband. By the time I went to see the Endontist (about 2 weeks after seeing the dentist because of scheduling issues), my pain had subsided. The Endontist tested my tooth to cold sensitivity and it responded normally. He said it was up to me if I wanted to go ahead with having root canals done to the tooth since I was not in pain. When asked if the antibiotics could have done anything, he said there was nothing, outside of an abscess, that antibiotics could be used to treat tooth problems.
Well, 6 months later, my tooth is aching again. Not as bad, but is back to being very sensitive to warm and cold. 6 Months ago, the Endontist seemed very confident that he could perform the root canals without removing the crown (I told him that if the crown comes off, the rest of the tooth comes with it, I am NOT going through any more painful fittings), even when I specifically asked about the nerve that I suspect is the cause of my pain 6 months ago and my current pain, he seemed confident he would get it. 6 months later, I am having doubts. I am afraid that I may be wasting more time and money to go with the root canals that may not solve my problem and I will end up pulling the tooth and having an implant put in. Any Dentists, Endontists and Oral Surgeons out there who want to let me know the pro's and con's of the root canals through the existing crown vs. going direct to an implant? I know my own dentist prefers to keep the original tooth as much as possible and did not like implant for molars. Are my fears about the Endontist not getting all the nerves during an root canal reasonable? Anyone who was in a similar position and what the end result was?
TIA.View Thread
