I see my Orthopedic in one week from today (May 6th) and want to approach him for Bilateral Operation. I live in a remote area 2 hours from the city where surgery would be done. IF he does not have a co-surgeon to do the 2nd knee simultaneously; has anyone out there ever had one Dr. do one and then the other under the same anesthetic????
We have a rehab center there as well and I am disciplined enough to follow through with all expected exercises for rehab. My husband will nurse me and help me fill in the missing links at home. Am retired so no need to rush back to work.
Comments please as to how to approach my Dr. and convince him to do both at once.
What do you think?

My name is Donna and I am new here. I am 42 years old and have been taking NSAIDs since I was in my early 20's. The most recent drug I have taken is meloxicam, and it was very effective for a number of years. I have a very high pain tolerance, and don't always know how sick I am until it is very bad. I had severe stomach pain and other symptoms, finally bloody stools and vomit. Went to the ER and got an endoscopy and colonoscopy. Turns out I have 5 bleeding ulcers. I found this out back in February. I was treated for terrible gut pain with hydrocodone, which can be tricky for me because I am in recovery for alcoholism and narcotic abuse. I have almost three years of sobriety. Anyway, I am off of the narcotics, and the arthritis pain is KILLING me. My doc says no more NSAIDS. The arthritis is very widespread, but worst in the neck and lower back. I have degenerative disc disease as well. I am reaching out for help. Any suggestions? Unfortunately, I am anemic and still very weak from the ulcers. Getting iron infusions and b12 shots. Have lost 35 lbs. Exercise is not a viable option for me.at this time. Have tried epsom salt baths, tiger balm/other "heating" rubs, chiropractic medicine and medical deep tissue massages. I am feeling desperateView Thread
This is John here new to this site. After the insertion of an artificial hip or knee joint is increased in the blood vessels for a time the risk of clots. These clots (medical: thrombus) may then be washed away with the blood flow and block at another location in the body of a blood vessel. Most clots but are metabolized by the body so quickly that they do not cause any discomfort. Sometimes, however, occur in the weeks following joint replacement surgery symptomatic "thromboembolism," for example in the lungs and inside of the leg arterial system (known as deep vein). For prevention of thrombosis, leading to discomfort, there are several medications available. Within 12 to 24 hours after kneereplacement surgery After a hip replacement, it should be taken 32 to 38 days after a kneereplacement 10 to 14 days.

have also been following through with exercies at home. My bending is good but I am still having a problem with my extension. I went to
the surgeon this morning and he wants me to continue with therapy
for another month and then go back to him. If the extension is still
not good then he suggested doing manipulation. Of course I am
very concerned about the possibility of having this done. I really
don't feel like being knocked out again. Has anybody had this done
and if so did you find that if made a difference? Having gone
through the knee replacement I will do whatever it takes to get the
knee right but am hoping it doesn't come to that.View Thread

Recently visiting my Ortho Dr. of many years , he stated I need a total knee replacement . That it would be " Day surgery " then , I was to go home as long as I had 24-7 care for a week or to a rehab ...He didn't go into the surgery or my allergies to steel an silicone .
I wonder about the effect on the knee replacement from that leg being one inch shorter than the other ?.
Has anyone ever had a total knee replacement as Day Surgery ?.
What type of artifical knee's are available that have no steel / silicone ?.
Has anyone gone through anything similar to the above ? I'm in the midst of deciding what to do and would appreciate any feed back .View Thread

PHYSICAL THERAPY BUT I AM SO PHYSICALLY EXHAUSTED AFTER WORK I CANNOT IMAGINE DOING THAT. I CANNOT STOP WORKING BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD TO. I FEEL LIKE I AM ABOUT READY TO GO CRAZY. MY HUSBAND DOES NOT UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH PAIN I AM IN, I DO NOT THINK ANYONE DOES UNLESS THEY HAVE THESE PROBLEMS. EVEN THE DOCTORS SAY I AM WAY TO YOUNG TO HAVE THIS EVEN THOUGH ALL THE XRAYS, MRIS, AND BLOOD TESTS SAY I DO. I HAVE A HERNIATED DISC NOW AND TWO BULGING DISCS. I JUST DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE. I KEEP READING THAT THIS IS A FULL TIME JOB TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF BUT HOW DOES SOMEONE AT MY AGE DO THAT AND HAVE TO WORK TO PAY THE BILLS AND RAISE A FAMILY. I HAVE NEVER BEEN THE TYPE OF PERSON TO LET STRESS GET TO ME BUT RIGHT NOW I FEEL HOPELESS. PLEASE ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATView Thread
would have subsided. The nights are awful. I am taking oxycodone
at night for the pain but am still waking up. I spoke to my Dr and told
him that I can't take a narcotic drug during the day because it makes
me so tired and I just finished in home therapy and on Monday will
be starting out patient. I cannot be driving and taking narctics, My
Dr suggested I take 3 advil twice a day. Nothing seems to be
helping and since I got out of bed this morning it is all I can do to
walk. Some days are better than others. I would love to hear from
people who have gone through this and would like to know if they
still had a lot of pain at 5 weeks.View Thread
My doctor does not seem to want to anything for me. I feel it is time for a knee replacement, but they say no since I am only 43 yrs old. I would like it done, as I am in constant pain and I am unable to do anything.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?View Thread
I too have degenerative disc disease due to arthritis, as well as I am going to have bilateral TKR in April, I also have torn shoulders, carpal tunnel and a flat foot LOL. As far as taking care of your back is concerned, Stretching exercises work for me well. One really good one is the "Superman". Lay on your stomach and lift both legs and arms in the air to a count of 10 2x and also opposite arm and leg for a count of 10 each. Then do the cat pose from yoga arching your back up while you breath to a count of 10 then flat like a table top to the count of 10. I will feel this instantly. Lots of stretches and crunches if you can. I am sitting on my exercise ball as I type this, it is better than sitting in a chair.
I used to do water arobics too, my gym closed for repair and I don't know when they will open again. If anyone has a city gym in their town it is the least expensive, if your over 55 it's only $25 a year. I live in NYC. Writing this to you guys helps to remind me what I need to do each day.
God bless and good luck I hope this is helpful.
