I am 55 years old and my right knee is twice the size of my left knee at the end of each work day. I had arthroscopic surgery on my right knee in 2007 and it only made my knee worse. At that time I worked in an office environment which I loved and used to work out at Curves every night. I lost my job in 2009, Curves closed in my town, I went through menopause and gained 60 pounds, and a live-in "creep" took me for everything I had. August 8, 2012 I started work as a temp worker in a chemical plant which has mandatory overtime all the time. August 8, 2014 I will have been a temp for 2 precious years of my life (no bonus, no insurance, no sick days, no vacation days, nothing) All I have gotten from this money hungry corporation is physically ruined for life! I am in pain 24/7 and can't hardly walk when I get home each night. I hurt too much to stand and cook and cleaning my house is quite painful. I cry every night and often times pray for God to just take me. I have no insurance so only have pain pills that make me tired but don't help much with the pain and nothing that addresses the arthritis that is taking over my body. I can't take pain pills til I get home. I am single and would love to date but nobody wants a decriped woman like me. I starved myself to get from 184 pounds to 130 pounds but gained 10 back last winter. I have to do the shoveling and anything else that needs done. Walking up or down stairs is a slow and painful process so try to avoid them. I can't lift very much weight at all. I have had no medical care since 2009 so no doctors know just how really bad I am. I am searching for an office job again but most only want part-time help. I feel so depressed about my life at 55. I get up at 3:30 am and go to work where I hurt so bad I want to die and then I go home and take pain pills and cry. That is not living! I don't have much money, live in a trailer that has a leaking roof, and a car that only has one window that works. I would love to be able to live life again e.g. shopping, dating, walking, no pain or at least very little pain. I want to laugh again like I used to. I want to be me again with laughter and doing fun things with people. I am not suicidal, don't believe in it. But the pain is taking its toll on me and I am getting very depressed.
I know I have rambled on about alot of things but the bottom line is that I truly would appreciate any and all constructive advice regarding how I can get some medical help before it is too late and what I can do to make my knee not hurt so much, some job finding help for my situation and a diet/exercise that may help me feel better. What do people my age do in a situation like this when I am expected to work for another 10 years at least.
Thank you in advance for all replies and God bless you all!View Thread
I have just been diagnosed with severe degenerative spinal osteoarthritis - had a CT scan a week ago and am waiting for the results. In the meantime, I am trying to do whatever I can to help myself. I live in a small town, and there aren't any support groups here, but I am thinking of starting oneView Thread
I AM 43 YRS OLD AND HAVE OSTEOARTHRITUS IN BOTH KNEES AND LEFT ANKLE DUE TO SPORTS INJURIES AND WORK HISTORY. MY DOCTOR TELLS ME THAT MY RIGHT KNEE IS THE WORST. I AM IN PAIN ALL THE TIME. THE CHOICE IS MINE FOR A TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT. HE WANTS TO WAIT BECAUSE OF MY AGE BUT I CAN NOT TAKE THE PAIN ANY LONGER. ANY ADVISE.View Thread
I had my knee replaced a few years ago and I have noticed that when I am in the water I can't bend my knee as far as I can when I am not in the water. It also hurts a lot when I am in the water. I wonder if this is normal. I really like being in the pool.
I also didn't have the knee cap replaced in that knee (my new Ortho surgeon says that it should have been but the other one didn't do it) and wonder if that has some bearing on the pain in the water. I also have a LOT of pain in that knee when I am not in the water, although I can bend it okay.View Thread
