I was uncertain and quite frightened by the thought of having a total hip replacment for my osteoarthritic hips, the right being worse than the left. I also have slight OA in my spine. I am 53. After a MRI confirmed that I also had acetabular dysplasia of both hips, it seemed an operation was inevitable at some time in my life. I had been going to hydrotherapy in an effort to strengthen muscle and lose weight that I had gained in the last few years. I lost 12 kgs but the pain was not getting better. So I had a THR of my right hip. It is 8 weeks post-op now. There is obviously no more joint pain but there is still varying pain in my thigh at this stage. I wonder if it is because I had a hybrid replacement? The most "annoying" aspect is people being surprised that I had a THR at my age, saying that I am "too young", etc. OA may occur to anyone at any age, especially if there is a strong family history like mine. I am glad I had the operation.View Thread
