I am 61 and have lost 3 inches due to OA. I was also severely abused physically and emotionally by my mother until the day I left home. The day she died 8 years ago was a good day for me. I believe that those of us that were severely physically and emotionally abused have a greater tendency to acquire auto immune diseases than other people. Life isn't very fair to many of us.View Thread

Ah! - the joys of auto immune diseases. YES, if you have one auto immune disease chances are very high that you will go on to have more types of auto immune diseases. I don't think anyone has done any studies to see if certain countries get more auto immune disease than other countries. Considering the doctors have all these fancy meetings that are a gathering of doctors from all over the world I am wondering why a study of this kind has not been done. Would be very cheap to do so. Then they could possibly put forward what the differences are in diets, industries, etc. Example is China, the country that puts LEAD into almost everything they use. Wonder what percentage of auto immune diseases they get?View Thread

There is one alternative therapy that almost all posts have failed to remember. That is: Soak in the tub with EPSOM SALTS, every day if need be. It does help a little bit. Just a handful of salts is all that is needed.View Thread

Do not expect the cortisone injection to last forever. They usually have to be repeated every 4 months. The amount of inflammation was probably so great that it will take a FEW injections before you actually feel the relief. And then you will still need to have the "upkeep" injections every 4 months.View Thread

Glucosamine really does help. It might take up to 2 months before you see a difference. I am also on an anti-inflammatory of a cox-1 and cox-2 combined. It is called Mobicox and is well tolerated with NO side effects for me.View Thread

I also have OA of L4 L5 S1. Initially the pain was a 30 on the scale 1-10. Steroid injections are helping greatly. Took a few injections before it felt like they were helping because the inflammation was so incredible. My OA started at age 50. I believe it was due to all the physical abuse I endured while I was growing up. I also have OA of left hip, neck, right thumb. It keeps creeping around. Not good.
Why, you ask? Yes 27 is young. Ask yourself why people get hashimoto's thyroid at age 25 (me). Ask yourself why people get Sjogrens at 26 (me). Ask yourself why other peole get diabetes at age 20 (not me). Life hands us crap. We have to deal with it.View Thread
