Well, this is an interesting topic and I had doubts I would find anything at all when I went searching for it on the Internet. I'm sorry for those who experience great pain.
I'm an active older man who has no other complaints or pains (that seem related to "popping sternums" at any rate) but find this condition a bit distressing. It doesn't audibly "pop" but when I bend down I feel as if something -- a tendon, muscle, etc -- is snagging the protuberance at the end of my breastbone. It doesn't hurt but feels increasingly uncomfortable until it finally and suddenly gives.
I have recently lost 25 pounds and then this condition came on abruptly. I figure the responsible tendon or muscle simply lost padding.
Anyone else have a similar story? In my case this seems to be a benign condition (but would hate to think there could be a tumor or something lurking in there...)View Thread
