Dear Beth-
this is encouraging, wonderful for you!! hope you are still in good shape- ?
i was hit like lightening 3 wks ago middle of the night with worst pain i've experienced in knee and up and down outer thigh- had had mild pain since June, xray showed mild bone spurring, thats all- MRI 3 wks ago showed 2 big tears in the meniscii, one on each side of the knee, bone on bone in front rt. side of knee, fissuring of tibia, and several enchondromas in knee- for some reason Orthopedist prescribed physical therapy, cane, custom made brace, pain killers, icing, and gave me a 'diagnostic' steroid shot in knee which isn't helping much- struggling with PT, started water therapy yesterday which felt wonderful, but the rest of time can't stand or move, pain too severe- doctor told me to come back after 6 wks. of pt, brace- said i have 'severe' osteoarthritis- WHY is he not mentioning replacement surgery? i am 58, somewhat overweight now but in pretty good shape- very muscly always been active with dog walking, gardening, hiking, biking- now can barely move- we live in rainy cold portland oregon, husband retires next october and we plan to move to Desert Hot Springs where its cheaper, warmer, dry - my doctor did suggest this as well- not sure if i should push surgery , get second opinion, or follow orthos orders- he's supposed to be very good- renowned university hospital in portand, Oregon Health and Science University- but i'm anxious for quality of life. I'm a painter / children's book illustrator and can't even sit at my work table- i'm drawing from bed now- any thoughts? thanks so much-View Thread
