I had som
e improvement with the Boniva, but this year when my T-score declined, my Dr ordered a thyroid test and 24 hour urine. At first they indicated they would probably have me take the birth control pill in addition to my Boniva. But then they tested my FSH and did another back Xray. The FSH test indicated 5 (mid-follicula), and the back xray indicated T9 compression deformity, T8 compression fracture, lesser compressions T5 - T7 and scoliosis of lower thoracic.
I think the decision for the Forteo was to preserve my spine. I appreciate your information on this regarding premenopause. I am not concerned about getting pregnant. My husband had a vastectomy several years ago.View Thread

-3.9). I have been taking Boniva, Calcium & Vit D supplements, and my spinal t-score has improved to -3.3. I just turned 51, and had a recent bone density scan. According to my height measurement, when I went in for this scan, I have lost 1 1/4 inches. This has been gradual; I lost 1/2 inch in the last year, but my concern is if I keep losing height at this rate.
Another concern I have, is that when I go through menopause, I may lose height faster. I am still having regular periods.
Should I talk to my Dr about Forteo?View Thread

5/28/06 - (age 46) Waterslide accident resulted in 4 broken ribs and a broken collar bone. I convinced my Dr. to give me a Bone Mineral Density test based on the comments of the Xray tech at the ER. She suggested that I get a Bone Density test because of the amount of breakage for a low trauma accident.
6/2/06 - Birthday (age 47)
7/12/06 - Bone Mineral Denisty test - Lumbar Spine
T-score -3.8, Z-score -3.2
Left Hip T-score -1.9, Z-score -1.5
7/15/06 - started Boniva, calcium & vit D supplements
8/3/07 - BMD with vetebral fracture analysis
Lumbar spine -3.4 t-score
Left Hip -1.8 t-score
Moderate Fracture T8
7/19/10 - most recent BMD
Lumbar Spine -3.3 t-score
Left Hip -2.0 t-score
With the loss in height, and the pain I have been experiencing with Boniva, I thought maybe Forteo would be an option.
My Dr. has actually recommended that I try the generic Fosamax - 70 mg per week.
Thanks again for your input. I go to the gym at least 3 times a week and complete 45 minutes - 1 hour of weight bearing exercise. I just wish I could do more to stop the bone loss. My concern is that my height will decrease more once I go through menopause.
ThanksView Thread

I was concerned, so I asked for my 18 year old son to be tested. His vitamin d level is 20, which form what I understand is also on the low side, although not as severe as my sister and daughter. What level of supplement would you recommend to get my son's vitamin d level up to an acceptable or preferred level?View Thread
