Dear Pain Lady and all others interested in the official stand of AA and meds, please go to this pdf site. http://www.aa.org/pdf/products/p-11_aamembersMedDrug.pdf Hopefully that will ease your mind. I know when my doctor wants to prescribe a pain medication for me I remind him I am a recovering alcoholic. Then between the two of us we decide what the best course of action is. I have 18 years sobriety. For 16 of those years I have had MS, and shortly after I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I haven't had a twinge of guilt about using my pain medications because I use them as prescribed by a doctor who knows my medical history. And not once have I abused them because I've stayed spiritually fit, and I read the AA literature, I go to meetings that help me stay sober, and that I feel I can be helpful to the other members stay sober. I also stay in the middle of the pack. I don't give advice, that's not what those meetings are for. We are to share our experience, strength and hope with each other in a first person format. I'm sure these other people that are giving you their opinions have good intentions. But they are not physicians treating your symptoms, and if it were me, I would take their opinions with a grain of salt. Remember, whether you are in AA or NA, we are told that these are but suggestions, You have to be honest with yourself. I hope this has helped you. Stay clean, pain free, and keep going to those meetings. But read all the AA literature you can get your hands on.View Thread
