Hi! I have severe degenerative arthritis of the spine and my Dr put me on Nucynta and I had the very same reaction. I took the medicine for 3 days, 75 mg every 6 hrs and the last one I took was on 8/27/12, and I still can't sleep because of the twitches. I can't even walk around the house without feeling exhausted. I can't think, I can't see right...the worst is the "twitches...justcan't sleepat all. I had to go into the hospital ER, I thought I was dying. I plan on contacting the company Tuesday and reporting my reactions. I have always heard the the F. patches work well; why didn't they work for you. I felt the best when I was on methadone 30 mg for my pain. I am going to try and have the DR put me on them again. I hope you feel better soon. Take Care...TView Thread

Hi Debb60, I looked up the Serotonin Syndrom because I have had some problems lately. Here's my story... I was admitted to the hospital August 28, 2012, for every one of these systems. I started a new medication for pain on August 17, 2012 called Nucynta ( it's a new narcotic pain pill that doesn't give you a high feeling)along with other medications I had been taking for years including Prozac and Compazine. I was so happy to finally have a Dr prescribe me a pain pill for my chronic back pain. I had been on 30 MG of Methadone for my back prior to that and I wanted to go off the Methadone because the only place I could get it was at a Meth Clinic for $420 per month (insurance would not cover and I have great insurance). Then about 1 day after taking the Nucynta, I could not sleep, my arms and legs and insides were jumping like "Jumping Beans" so I could NOT sleep at all, Nauseated, breathing problems, heart pounding, horrible headache, shivering, agitation, heavy sweating, and generally feeling like I was going to die!! When I went to the hospital, they ran a panel of blood tests and said my hemogloban was 7.1, and my iron was 2.0. They would not let me go home and said I could have died at any time by my heart stopping from not having enough blood. Could those low blood scores cause all these systems or could it be the Serotonin Syndrome? I was dismissed August 31, 2012 with ALL of the same systems that I had when I went in. I still can not sleep...and I mean AT ALL!!!!! My legs and arms are still "going to town" with the "twitches". I am getting so weak from no sleep that I can't even walk my little dog. Could these symptoms possibly be from my stopping the methadone? I was on methadone for 14 years. I thought that the new opioid Nucynta would have taken the place of the Methadone-kind of like the Nucynta picking up where the Methadone left off. Do you think these systems could also be withdrawl systems from stopping the Methadone? The hospital said not to take the Nucynta any longer and they gave me a script of 24 Vicoden when I left the hospital that I am trying not to take unless my back is out of control with pain. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas about my problem? Bless You for writing about thisView Thread

Anon_1421, Wish I would have known about Florida before we moved here. Don't think it would have made a difference though; it was a move for my husband's job so the move had to be made. I do appreciate your kind thoughts and I definitely have not given up...there has to be a Dr here in my area that will help me..I Hope! Have a great summer.View Thread

TDXSP08, Thanks for your information which makes a lot of sense. The only thing is my insurance is through my husbands work which is a very large company in Orlando. Changing my address to Mississippi would not go over too well in the benefit department. I am not sure what I am going to do but I can relate to the depression and wondering if all this is really worth going through on a day to day basis. The pain is so bad that if I vacume or do laundry, I am in so much pain for over a week that I can barely stand it. I have kept a pain journal since January, hoping if I finally find a Dr that will take me can read the journal and know how much pain I am in. I read in here the other day that someone waited until their pain was extremely bad and went to the ER. They gave this person a Cat-Scan, medication for the pain and a follow-up Dr to continue with help and pain relief. I told my husband that and I think we are going to do that...I have to do something or I am going to lose my mind...aspirin just doesn't do it...nor motrin...nor any other of the NAIDS I have taken. Thanks for your help and
Peace to you too.View Thread

Anntte, I m veyhappy or your 2 friends in Florida. But its not that way for most people n Florida. A lotof people have been reduced to going to Methadone clinics at $420 per month just to get something for the pain. Yes, it does help for pain but the cost is a killer for most of us. I have great insurance but they will not pay for methadone at a methadone clinic. People think you are an addict if you go to a methadone clinic. I have tried to get doctor to switch to pills or switch to a different drug but since I am new to Florida (10/2011), they refuse to give me any opiates. I was on oxycontin and oxycodone for breakthrough since 2005. My husband was transferred from WI to MS to TX and now FL. I had no problem getting my meds in the other states, but not FL!! I am trying to get
off the meth because as soon as a Dr hears I am going to a meth clinic, they tell me I have to get off the methadone before they will even consider taking me as a patient. Since 1/2012, I have gone from 120 mgs daily to 30 mgs daily and in 2 weeks I am scheduled to go to 20 mgs....just toTRYand get a RX for pain with a copay of $1 instead of $420 a month...not to mention the fact that 30mgs is not even coming close to covering my back pain....Degenerative Arthritis of the spine. All I can say is, "If you are in any pain, do not move to Orlando, FL" Does anyone have any suggestios? HELP!View Thread

I live in Orlando, FL ad the Doctors and the Pharmacies will not wrte nor fill pain meds...even the pain Doctors. There are very few Pharmacies that are not Walgreens, CVS or attached to a grocery store or discount store.
I have Degenerative Arthritis of the spine and I have had it since 2005. I show the Doctors proof of what pain meds I have been on and they refuse to refill the scripts. They say it just is not safe to fill pain meds anymore in Florida, especially if it is a new patient (I was new to Orlando Oct 2011) what is this country coming to? I am 62 years old and I feel like 75...I can barely get around any more. Do I have to drive 500 miles to Mississippi to see a Doctor and then not be sure I will get my RX filled. I can't have an MRI because I have stents for kidney stones and steel plate in my head from a tumor removed in 1975. Does anyone have any suggestions?? HELP!!View Thread

You have the same problems I have Degenerating Spinal Arthritis and DDD. I am going to follow your progress to see what works well for you. I am living in Orlando, FL and the Doctors here will NOT prescribe opiates of any kind...it is against the law or something so I live on Motrin; which actually does NO good what so ever. I have tried pain Doctors and they also can not prescribe opiates...in fact CVS and Walgreens Pharmacies have been shut down due to over prescribing opiates to the patients (even with a full written RX!!!)
I really wish I knew where to go or what to do...I am out of my mind with pain. I exercise as much as I can, walk, try to use the pool as much as possible, stretches...I just don't think it is fair to be in sooo much pain and no one will help me.
Anyway, back to you...How long have you had your disc problems and is this the first Dr you have seen or did you have to go to lots before you finally found one who would help you? I hope this medicine helps you and please continue to write so I can follow your progress...Thanks and take careView Thread

I AM in pain and have been in SEVERE pain and getting worse on a regular basis for many years...maybe I am not making myself clear...I apologize. I am not assuming I will have pain...I DO have extremely severe pain now!!! If I did not have the methadone I am on now, I would not be able to get out of bed...I am simply looking for a Dr who will either give me a RX for methadone so my insurance will pay for it (and yes, the clinics I have been going to since 2000 is an opiate methadone maintenance clinic because I could not get any Dr to give me an RX for the methadone), and put me on a regular treatment program so he/she can follow me along as me pain gets better or worse. I have known MANY people who are on well over 200 mgs of methadone a day on a maintenance program.
Also, in every state I have lived in and worked and had to take a urine test to get a job, either my immediate boss or the boss over him/her would call me and ask for an explanation about the methadone...a complete explanation. I have always asked at the lab facility if they would like a list of my Rx's or proof by showing them the bottles with my name and info on it. They always said no that they would contact my employer and if they needed proof of usage, they would call me directly. It's more than a little embarrassing to say the least.
I will call the State Board of Medical Licensing here in Florida and ask about the situation...however, I have spoke with 5 different Drs plus the people at the methadone clinic and they all confirmed that it is a state law...you can only get opiates from a Pain Doctor, not a regular family Doctor...it has been on TV since right after Christmas...they were trying to make it illegal for Pharmacies to fill any opiates unless the person had proof of final stage Cancer. That was on TV, Yahoo, google and the radio and the newspaper. But I will formally check it out and report back...By the way...they did not pass the law about the Pharmacies! Thank God! I will write back when I have more info. Thank you for your helpful information...Take care and God Bless.View Thread

I do realize now as I am coming down on my methadone that yes it is "something for the pain", however, I no longer want to go to a meth clinic. I would rather a pain Dr or any Dr just give me the methadone by pill ( or however the Drs give it to you) and something for the breakthrough pain. 60 mgs of methadone is not enough to help with the pain...I am nearly out of my mind with pain...I almost can't stand it anymore!! When I have tried to discuss my treatment plan with him he only wants to do epidurals and I can't imagine putting a needle into my spine or anywhere near my spine.
I won't do the "cash for meds"; I didn't think it sounded quite koesher...
I guess when I asked for "something for the pain", I should have said something more or something different because this is NOT working.
Thanks for your suggestions, I really appreciate them. Take care and God Bless.View Thread
