So while all this was going on I went to see a neurosurgeon about my neck. At the first visit, he looked over my mri's and possitively told me that he could fix me. So I had a new mri of my neck which had a new bulging disc and some other stuff. I met with him again and he told me that he could do the surgery BUT, he was concerned that I have a family history of stroke and heart attack and I was at risk for stroke and heart attack, so he said I might not make it through surgery at all. Then in his waiting room I talked to one of his patients that had a horrific scar (the dr did mention scarring as well) on the front part of her neck and she explained that the surgery did nothing for her pain. Well I decided to opt out of surgery for now...
Then I got very depressed ultimately ending up in the psych ward. I was there for 12 days. I was an og case, in that they had to treat my pain afterall I was depressed because of the pain. I demanded that they not send me home until I had some support for my pain. In the hospital they only gave me vicodin, neurontin, lyrica, naproxen and all of my bipolar, depression meds but, what they did do is hook me up with this organization that comes to my house. Aside from my home health care nurse, I now have a nurse that comes 3 times a week, pt and a social worker. My nurse called my Dr's office requesting me to have fentynal patch and my Norcos while they treat me here at home.
I went to my Dr's appointment yesterday and I forgot to mention the Pain Management's discovery of thc in my system and my Dr reminded me. Ha snitches lol. Anyways she was as nice and thourough as ever and she gave me my scripts and sent me on my way. I finally got my Norcos back but, I am so muscle spasmed out that they are not working. The pharmacy has to order the patches so, I may have to wait until after the holidays.
It feels good because, I feel like I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I will start Physical Therapy next week should all go well with the new med combo. I am getting 75mcgs fentynal patch and Norco. My dr and I were trying to figure out if I should continue the lyrica for nerve pain. And I was just wondering what to expect ie experience with side effects and was this a good point to start with the fent patch...
I'm hoping everyone will enjoy Thanks Giving this week! LitaView Thread

I did see a neurosurgeon and he sudjested surgery but, he wanted to see a new MRI which I got and there is one more bulging disc and more degeneration than the last MRI which was only a year and a half ago.
I too have alot of pain in my arms and hands. With arthritis, neck problems and dual carpal tunnel syndrom. In fact my middle finger or tall man hehe is numb and painful every day and night.
I am really looking forward to this new PM doctor and I am going to do everything in my powet to get my body into shape with this new therapy to help elliminate some or all of my pain.
Yea, I could use a shoulder and one to rub my back even if it is just imaginable. My boyfriend of 12 years left me a month ago. So I am also dealing with that.View Thread

I called my primary to prescribe one last script for my norco this morning so, I am waiting for them to call and let me know if it was done. She doesn't like prescribing narcotics either but, she has been a life saver b/c whenever I am between PM Drs she does take over. I don't know how long that is going to last though...
Yea I get the feeling that Dr's send us to pain management just to get us out of their hair and they don't want to be liable.. And the pain clinics are over crouded and only aloud to prescribe a certain amount or treat so many patients until they get their quota (sp?) and the leftovers don't get proper care. Just a thought...
I really feel you because, I have had the same experiences in the last year and a half. That is really crazy that the Dr gave you an ultimatum, I think it would be up to the patient to decide if they want to have any surgery. It's like they want the money for the knee surgery or they wont prescribe the meds. That blackmail!
No I have never had fentayl before. I have taken Oxycontin and that worked really well but, this new pm said the fentenyl will be a much better script because of other meds I am on..
My next appointment with the new PM is on the 18th so, I will let you know how that goes...LitaView Thread

You wrote about prescibing and refilling of medications and being very responsible and the potential for dangerous side effects. What are your thoughts on fentanyl patch?? The new PM did explain the very things you are saying with your extra food for thought so thanks for your reminder. I have been doing research on opiods and my responsibilities if I am prescribed this medications so your input has been very helpful....LitaView Thread

The good thing is I get to have a new MRI and be able to see if there were any changes since a year and a half ago. If the surgery is not necessary, I will not do it at this time...Have a nice day

As far as pain relief from surgery, I don't think one way or another. To be honest, I was hoping the surgery could help with pain and function. The only thing I know is that some ppl say it helps, some say it doesn't. My Mom had surgery on her back and 10 years later (Now) she says that it helped and she rarely has pain in her back anymore and she is a hair dresser (on her feet, bending over all the time).
If I could have a %50 percent chance of it helping my pain it would be well worth the try. Unfortunately something has come up and I will not be able to have it done....Thank you so much!!...LitaView Thread

Last night was the worst pain! I didn't sleep a wink. I had pain up and down my whole spine. I'm just waiting for my friend to bring me something for breakfast so I can take my meds.
The new Pain Management Dr said that they don't give meds on the first visit but, they gave me a new appt in about 3 weeks and he said if he takes me on as a patient he would like to give me the fentenyl patch and the norco for break through pain. I don't have enough norco to get me through to that date so, I might go to the ER at the same hospital that the PM center is at and see if he will help. He said with the fentenyl I will no longer need any muscle relaxers, which will be wonderful because, I never get relief with them anyways. And he said that the muscle relaxers were highly adictive which I did not know.
Well thanks james for your input. i hope you have a great day...LitaView Thread
