I had a very bad injury about 3 1/2 years ago. I had fallen off my horse and broke my femur in six places, broke the femoral neck and even crushed bone. I had an 8 1/2 hr sugery where there were some complications, but I have a rod that goes from my hip to my knee. My doctor was originally afraid that the hip would die, but blood flow has returned and it looks great with no signs of arthritis. I have been using a bone stimulator and taking my suppliments as requied by my doctor, but I am having a lot of pain in my hip and knee.
My doctor still sees me once a month for regular xrays and we are still seeing new bone growth almost every visit, as well as most areas have healed completly. I still have a large fracture that has not completly healed, but my doctor is saying that everything is looking good, but I am still having a lot of pain. I cannot sleep an entire night or sit for longer that 15 to 20 mins at a time and I was hoping that there may be some ways to manage my pain without continually taking medications every 4 hrs, that could damage my liver overtime. I am still young, at 36 and want to see what options are out there. My doctor is against pain medications other that OTC's, so when I try to talk to him about pain management he just wants to do more xrays. The pain is making me crazy, limiting my daily activity and beginning to cause depression. Any ideas would be a great help.
