I have been suffering from chronic pain for 3 years and it's a pretty general thing. I go from specialist to specialist and get lots of answers to what it isn't but not much info on what it is. I had sepsis, multiple surgeries, multiple organ failure, and developed type 1 diabetes as a result of all this 3 years ago when this all started. The boil that set it all off was on my right buttock and required a wound vac for 4 months and many surgeries to clear. There was a MRSA type infection involved also.
My pain is severe and throughout my back, hips and legs mostly on the right side, but not totally. I have constant muscle spasms throughout my back and legs mostly that leave me feeling like I have been severely beaten and bruised. My docs can't seem to find an answer. I feel like they are starting to thing I'm just after the meds!
Since this all happened though, medications do not work as they're supposed to. They will work for a few days and then that's it, it's like a switch turns off and they might as well be sugar pills. I am currently on the fentanyl patch 50 mcg every 72 hrs and I also take a couple percocet and tramadol and 3 750 mg robaxin/day. I am still having spasms constantly and my pain doesn't really change much when I take them. It just takes the edge off. The patch is only effective the first 12 hours or so, although that's not quite accurate either because it doesn't do anything until about the 3rd hour. My doc wants to take me off all narcotics because he doesn't want to prescribe them, but hew hasn't given me another plan yet and I can't take nsaids because of damage to my kidneys from sepsis.
My previous family dr sent me to a pain management center and the guy I saw there said nothing is wrong because I don't have a disc problem. My neurologist says there's something off in my spine, but he hasn't figured it out yet after several mris and nerve studies. I don't know where to turn! I don't sleep, I can't sit in a regular chair for more than half an hour, and I have to stand most of the day. I am now on full disability from this, but I'm only 42. Before this I hadn't taken a sick day in 20 years. I need an answer! Please help!View Thread
