I've got the whole week off from work. I'm excited to spend the week with DS and my 12 year old niece. We're staying in a hotel one night to use the pool (if DS will go in - DH and I are betting he won't). The next day we're going to the aquarium (DS can't wait to find all the creatures he sees on The Octonauts!). We're planning a trip to the Rainforest Cafe...and we'll see what the rest of the week brings. I've been looking forward to this time off for a while. Glad it's finally here.View Thread
DS is having his Valentine's celebration at daycare today so we spent yesterday making cupcakes together. He walked into daycare today and proudly announced 'Mommy and I made cupcakes!'.
Tomorrow, we're going to go out for dinner as a family and then we're going to the local pet store where DS will get to pick out a betta fish. We lost our dog late last year and DS still talks about how much he misses her, so we're taking our first foray back into pet ownership by starting small. We're still getting over the loss so this seemed like a good way to start and a great Valentine's Day gift for DS. I think he'll be so excited. I'm going to set up the small fish tank in his room tonight while he's sleeping so he'll see it when he wakes up!View Thread
It really depends on the school district. Ours, and many others in this region, have a September 1st cutoff. DS has a late September birthday and will not be able to start kindergarten until he is almost 6 years old.View Thread
DS has been in daycare since he was 3 months old and he's definitley built up a healthy immune system. He was in and out with ear infections and colds the first two years (I felt like we lived at the pediatricians office). This year (knock on wood), he hasn't been sick at all. And he's been through exposure to colds and flu-like illnesses at both daycare and home (I still don't know how he didn't get the flu-like one especially).
I look at it this way - better be sick and build up the immunities now rather than when they're in school and have to miss school days.
It's never fun when they're sick. I hope Ava's feeling better soon!View Thread

What time do they wake up or do you have to wake them? 6:30 and usually, he's waking up on his own
What is your bedtime routine like? At around 8:30, DS and I snuggle in my bed with a book and then tv time. At around 5 minutes to 9, DS calls DH in to come get him. DS gets his teeth brushed, a last trip to the potty and then to bed.
Do they still nap? Yes
Do you let them stay up later on the weekends? Nope. 9pm is late enough!
On a side note, I've asked his pediatrician about his bedtime and wakeup because I was concerned he wasn't getting enough sleep. He said if DS wasn't cranky, he was fine and that some kids just need less sleep - and mine is one of them (which is unfortunate, because I require a lot of sleep!)View Thread
About 2 months ago, DS was at the toilet and standing up to pee. He didn't put the toilet seat up high enough and it came crashing down on his penis. We went through about a month when he was horribly afraid of the toilet seat.
Finally, DH went out and bought a slow closing toilet seat. We were out at the dentist the next day with my mother. He turned to her and said (in a crowded waiting room) "Nanny! Daddy bought me a new toilet seat and now it won't crush my gibblets anymore!"
We were invited to 2 parties, but if my team makes the Super Bowl, I like to sit and watch it in the quiet of my own house without the noise and hoopla to distract me! And since the Pats are in, I'll be staying home - if only I could talk DH into watching it somewhere else, it would be perfect (he's a negative nelly - not fun to watch a game with)
I'm going to make a vat of meatballs and sausages the day before so we can make subs the day of (I'll throw them in the crockpot so I don't have to cook during the game!). And probably a few dips - maybe chicken wings, too. And nachos...I love game food!!!!
