It's winter early here in Chicago temperatures in the single digits and -12 deg. below zero windchills. It's supposed to sub zero ambient later tonight. We have 3 inches of snow on the ground and are expecting another 4 this morning. Looks like a white Christmas for us.View Thread
Its been a long time since I've been around. Life has been busy, which odd since I'm working at only 25% capacity at the office. My big news is that I'm going into semi-retirement at the beginning of next year. In that, I'll maintain my law license if I want to get back into things. I have spent this preparing myself for this change and to test whether I was ready for it. Life on the domestic front has been so much nicer with me to handle the home life. We are fortunate that we don't need my income and even without it our lifestyle won't change. So off to a new chapter in my life. It will be strange not to have an office to go to but I'll figure it out. Just means I'll volunteer even more at school.
Levi is doing really well academically. We have had some typical 7 year old boy behavioral issues like cutting up with his friends in class. He has been reading up a storm and I'm struggling to find books that the topic is age appropriate but challenging. He just finished Roald Dahl's The Witches, prior to that The BFG and is now burning through A Diary of a Wimpy kid. I think he'll try the Percy Jackson stories next. Any suggestions for other books?
Congrats!!!!! Here is how I have handled a sort of similar situation. We are likewise very open about us using an egg donor. People will comment on how much Levi looks like me. He doesn't. I say thanks but he really favors the egg donor. You could respond similarly in that saying thanks but she really looks like her birth mother. Enjoy this new little one. She is very fortunate.View Thread
We just found out who Levi's teacher will be this year. I was a little worried because this is only her second year at Levi's school and only her fourth year of teaching. I don't know if you remember Levi having a rough JK year because he had a relatively new teacher who didn't understand little boys very well. However after looking at the class roster for the three second grade classes, his teacher has the greatest percentage and number of boys so I think they feel comfortable with her ability to handle young boys. We will meet his teacher the 28th at orientation. I'm excited to hear about what they will be doing this next year in school. He has three more weeks of summer break before going back to school.View Thread
Summer is cruising along for us as well. Levi doesn't go back to school until the Tuesday after Labor Day so we have about another month left. It's been a pretty action-packed summer so far and the weather has been really wonderful here Chicago. His eight week day camp just concluded. This week he has a half-day drawing summer camp. Next week, it's a half-day chess camp. The following week we will be up in Maine. The last week before school starts will be a half-day Lego camp. On top of all this, he had swim practice four/five days a week and a French tutor that comes to the house twice a week. I haven't even started to think about back-to-school shopping. We should learn in the next week or two who his teacher is and who all will be at his class this coming year in second-grade. Two of his best friends wont be returning to the school because of the expense, which is making Levi sad. What is really crazy is I am already investigating sleep away camps in Maine for next summer.View Thread
Wow that is crazy. Levi seems to grow at a steady pace. Knock on wood that it stays that way. He just had his 7 year physical. He is 57 lbs and 50 inches. This puts him in the 76% for weight and 81% for height. He is dense as he is all muscle, not an ounce of fat on his skinny hard body. Thank goodness for adjustable waist bands.View Thread
Levi did super this weekend. He absolutely loved racing and asked when the next meet was. On the 50m Fly he came in 2nd out if 29 boys. His time for the Fly was just south of 5 seconds off the needed regional time for 10 and under. He came in 8th out 30 boys in the 50m Free, 5th out of 29 boys for the 50m Back and 3rd out 29 boys for the 50m Breast. He technically came in 3rd in the 100m Free but was disqualified for allegedly not hitting the wall on his flip turn. What happen was his goggles weren't seated right and filled with water so he couldn't see. When he got to the wall he couldn't judge the distance. He says he hit the wall with his toes and from our view it looked like he did plus he clearly got some thrust from his turn but such is life. I was so proud that he soldiered through the race with his googles as they were and didn't get upset about it or being DQ'd.View Thread
