Levi is doing his first meet this weekend. From what I have learned from the veteran moms be prepared for two very long days. Levi will be in the pool 3 times on Saturday and 2 times on Sunday. So total swim time will be about 3 minutes per day and total watching time 4 to 5 hours per day. It should be interesting. I have a feeling I'm going to have a sore butt after all that bleacher time.View Thread
If the teacher thinks he is academically ready and you think he is ready then he is ready. Levi attends a very selective independent private day school. He classmates came into first grade with a wide range of reading and math skills. Some couldn't read and others were already reading at a 5th grade level. Math skills were similarly across the board. Your SIL can go pound sand. Split class sounds like a prefect solution for your son.
As for the ADD issue, have you looked into intense physical activities to see if that would help without immediately going the med route? Levi isn't ADD but is a high activity guy, he benefited greatly from being in the pool 5 days a week. ADD was one of the reasons Michael Phelps was put in a pool at an early age. Just food for thought.View Thread
Lazy summer days is a misnomer if you ask me. We are packed every weekend this summer except the first weekend of August, add to that Levi's non-stop camp and swim schedule. I'm so glad that I'm PT at 25%. I don't know how I would be able to survive otherwise. Workouts have taken a hit with our most recent vacation and busy weekends. I try to row 7 km everyday and swim 1 km three times a week. Right now I have been getting in only 5 rows and one swim a week.View Thread
We spent a week and a half in the UK. Edinburgh was cool and drizzly but lovely. We had picture perfect weather in London. Took Levi to see Matilda. He loved it. Summer camp started this week. He'll be there for eight weeks. This weekend he is doing his first USA swim meet. It will be interesting to see how he does. It will by in an Olympic size pool. He has only swam in 25 yd pools so that will be interesting for him. We will be in the stands and won't be able to talk with him until after the meet that will be nerve racking for me. On Saturday, he swims 50 m free, 50 m fly and 50m back. On Sunday, 50 m breast and 100 m free. I just hope he enjoys it and has a good time.View Thread
That what our dentist said. I guess it must be pretty routine these days. It makes a lot of sense. I wish they did this when I was a kid. It could have save me a lot of dental trauma. I'm just glad that he will be able to do this.View Thread
Levi had a cleaning yesterday. His 6 year molars are completely in. The dentist noticed that they are deeply grooved and one is discoloring already in the deep grooves. He suggested that we use a sealant on them to help prevent tooth decay, which we are going to do. I have super soft teeth with tons of filings even though I was an avid toothbrusher. It sounds easy enough but was wondering if anyone else has done this.View Thread
Levi's front teeth needed to be out weeks ago. He just won't touch them. They were barely hanging in there. Well yesterday we had his cleaning and I had the dentist pull them. As I picked him up from school , all of his friends were giving me suggestions on how to get them out of his. It was pretty funny. He was really good about the dentist pulling them. It was no big deal since they were so loose. He could make them do karate. I took a video of that. Here are before and after photos.
As you can see the adult teeth have already cut through.View Thread
Truly bittersweet. Today is Levi's last day of 1st grade. He had an absolutely wonderful 1st grade teacher and assistant teacher this year. I'm a little sad and weepy today. They are just getting so big.View Thread
I hear you. Levi's school ends on the 31st but Friday is his last day because we are traveling to the UK. His summer is mapped out with camps, swim, and vacation. Then 2nd grade. I'm not ready for that. Kind of sad because I learned today that his best buddy isn't returning next year. They have been together since preschool. His parents are looking to buy a house (they just sold theirs) in an area of Chicago with a good public school associated with it. The tuition at Levi's school was just too much and their 2nd child is almost preschool age. So bummed. This is the 2nd good friend that won't be returning due to the cost. The other friend's parents were paying for three kids in the school, which is a small fortune to pay.View Thread
