We are doing fine. Henry broke his arm at the pumpkin patch. He has a cast for 4 wks. We are on the countdown he gets it off right before Thanksgiving. He is bummed no PE or sports. And it is his writing hand so a challenge at school. Poor kid. Henry is doing well at school and found his new love Science! Tre has caught up on reading. I am so happy as I agonized over summer school but it has done wonders and both boys loved it. They even asked to go again this summer. I am busy at work getting handed projects taking me out of my comfort zone but I love it. I am still part time and hope to stay that for a bit. I forsee in the future a shift to full time. The boys loved the wimpy kid do it yourself book. It is a book but they get to basically write their own stories in it as it asks questions. Pretty fun and a great keepsake. We are working on the magic tree house books now. I can't remember which we have been reading but very good stuff. Wimpy kid is our books of choice now. Good to hear from you.View Thread
We have been in school 2 wks already and it has been the hottest temps for the summer. Pretty miserable. After today it cools to the 80's at least. It was such a cool summer and then boom here is the hot temps. Everyone is rather cranky . Thank goodness our schools have A/C. A few that do not are getting out early every day.View Thread
School is going well. I think the boys really adjusted easily and were ready for the routine. So far they both like their teachers. Tre has lunch at 12:45 late lunch and Henry has lunch at 11:30 early lunch. After school Tre is usually ok. I actually have him eat a small breakfast at home and he likes to eat breakfast at school too. So he can make it until 12:45 but poor Henry is starving when he gets home. I do not want him to eat too many snacks as we have dinner but I have been giving crackers and cheese, apples with carmel, pb & j sandwich , granola bars. I am seriously considering a really early dinner from here on out. What time to you guys eat dinner ? And what time do your kids eat lunch at school? Last year they ate basically at the same times so it was more "even".View Thread
So far so good! The boys are now excited to go back to school and be with their friends. Henry however really has only a few of the girls from last years class and one boy . He seems pretty excited though. Henry's teacher is a small petite gal and Henry is just about as tall as her. We laughed about it. Tre's teacher has many years experience and is a teacher through and through. They changed their math program this year and some other small changes. All for the good as I see it . Looking forward to 2nd and 3rd grade!!!!! We start tommorow. Today they have their last day of Y camp and are going on a field trip to the water park for the "end of summer". (Even though next week we are in the 90's again Hope everyone is doing well. Just thought I would check in!View Thread
It is new books called Go Math! I need to read more about what they are doing. From what I gathered it is more than just doing problems but more comprehensive. Also utilizing the computer for math as the testing is all done on the computer. Another change is no more keeping the kids in for recess for a discpline situation. Their school was already pretty good at this anyway. But now they have to let them have their 1 total recess (15 mins). This is what I fought for 2 yrs ago. Apparently it takes time! Also no more birthday edible treats only toy type treats or Tre's teacher had a great idea of bringing a book in to read to the class and donating the book for his birthday. Love that idea! And yes they are teaching cursive! It was neat seeing all the names written in cursive on their desks. Henry was super excited about this too. No strings until 4th grade. I may have to look into music lessions for this year. The boys are looking forward to their year. It is fun to see them so excited.View Thread
Wow! Summer is flying by. We just got back from a vacation at Wisconsin Dells. We had a great time. But now starts the back to school madness. I can't believe how fast summer is going. However they have us going back earlier this year. All in all added 12 days to the school year. We go back on August 14th. I do not think any of us are ready. Got school clothes shopping done at the outlet mall in Wisconsin.! Now for school supplies and all the "activities " we have on the calendar before school starts~~ We got our teacher assignments in the mail. I do not know either of them so we shall see. Hoping for a good year. Can't believe we are starting 2nd and 3rd grade. 2013 has definately went by quickly. So are you all ready for school to start?View Thread
Just popped in for a quick minute. We have been super busy. My head is spinning. Work for me has been chaotic. The boys are liking Y camp but Tre lost his glasses this week I was so upset and so was he. Hoping they find them at camp. I have a feeling they are in the field somewhere. We have one more week until we head out on vacation with my Mom. I sooooo need a vacation to relax. The boys are super excited. We start school on the 14th. We start early this year and I do not think any of us are ready for it. This summer is flying by like crazy. My house is getting new siding and hopefully will be finished up next week. So between work being chaotic, contracters at my house and running the boys to various things I am thinking the lazy hazy part of summer was missed for the crazy days of summer!View Thread
