I just recently read the Happiest Toddler on the Block because I've been really struggling with ways to handle Shae. What I've started doing when she starts whining is saying, "I can't understand you when you talk like that" or "That voice is hurting my ears" and then I say, "I'm going to go over here and I'll be back when you are ready to use a nice voice." Then I walk away and do something else for a minute or so. As soon as she stops or switches the way she's talking, I walk back and ask her what she wanted to tell me. It hasn't made the behavior disappear, but it's helped shorten the incidents and they're not happening as often.View Thread
My prayers are going out to everyone affected by this horrible tragedy. Very good point to have an emergency and a backup plan in place considering that the cell phone service may not be available.View Thread
1. Underwear and socks - probably 15 or so of each. DD1 has 2 pairs of tights, DD2 has 1 pair.
2. Bottoms - each kid has probably 12 pairs of cotton pants and 6 pairs of jeans and khakis for each. Probably 15 or so pairs of shorts and 6 or 8 skirts for warm weather.
3. Tops - Probably 20 short sleeve, 20 long sleeve, 10 hoodies and 20 tank tops when the weather gets warm enough to bust those out.
4.Dresses - 5 or so each.
5. Shoes - one pair of play tennies (they also keep a pair at my mom's), 2 pairs of sandals for warm weather, 2 pairs of dress shoes, cowboy boots, snow boots and rain boots. This is drastically cut down from how many DD1 usually has in each size.View Thread
We insist that the girls wear either sunglasses or hats or both when they're outside. I worry about their vision. DH always wears a hat and I try to remember to as well to set a good example for the girls. If it's bright out, DH and I wear sunglasses too.View Thread
Hi all. My name is Jodi. My DD's name is Shaelynn and she's turning 4 this month! I've been a part of Web MD since I was pregnant with her. I also have a 10 month old DD named Avriana. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you.View Thread
Lurking from 2 year board. I suffered from repeat UTIs like your DD from the time I was an infant. It was awful. I had a lot of testing done as well. In the last couple of years, I haven't had one (knock on wood!) whereas I used to get one every month or two. I take cranberry supplements religiously, drink a ton of water, and try to urinate frequently so that the bacteria doesn't sit in my bladder for any longer than necessary.
Aveeno is really good soap and if you can try to wait till the end of her bath to wash her hair and body, then she won't be sitting in the water with the soap while she plays. That may help some. Also, if she's swimming, the minute that she's done, change her into dry clothes. The dampness of the swimsuit can cause a UTI very easily.
Also, you can ask her doctor about this pills that will help with the pain she's experiencing until her antibiotics have a chance to kick in. I don't remember what they're called, but they turn the urine yellow/orange after taking them and help so much with the burning sensation when you pee.
I really hope you can get them under control for her soon. They're just miserable.View Thread
