Researchers found that the number of young children who were injured while being carried on the stairs accounts for about a quarter of injuries among children under age 1. These children are also more than three times more likely to be hospitalized as a result of their injuries than children who were injured in other ways.
WOW - those are big numbers! Our house doesn't have stairs but I've had close calls on our front porch and the steps to our deck in the back. (clumsy) The 3.5 year old won't let me carry her anymore so I think we're in the clear for these types of injuries.
Have you ever had a fall on stairs? Has your kid?

Seven lots of generic birth control pills have been recalled. The new recall is not linked to the previous recall of Pfizer birth control pills. The pills recalled by Glenmark, made and packaged in India, must be taken in order -- but the recalled packages are put together backward. This means women may take the wrong pills on the wrong day, putting them at risk of unwanted pregnancy.View Thread

However, 60,000+ kids in the U.S. go to the ER for accidental overdoses because they got into medicines when a parent or caregiver wasn't looking. Click the link above to read more about a new program to keep meds "Up & Away".
Interesting to note that risks may increase during the holidays when visitors leave coats, purses, or suitcases with meds laying around.

The antidepressant Celexa can cause possibly fatal changes to the heart's electrical activity, the FDA today warned.
Celexa should no longer be used at doses higher than 40 milligrams per day. The drug's new label will remove a statement suggesting that some patients may need 60 milligrams per day. It will also warn of the drug's risk to the heart.View Thread

Study shows that perishable foods in these lunches are often potentially hazardous because the foods are not always kept at safe temperatures.
The statistics are pretty grim - even with an ice pack!
I use one ice pack on the bottom of the lunch box - I make sure when it's picked up by the handle that the perishables (cheese, yogurt, etc) are nestled against the ice.
How do you pack lunches?
