nacox- You don't say where you are, but in the NYC area we are experiencing an early spring and with that early allergies. Last week alone 3 of my cancer patients had urgent visits and all turned out to be hot spots from allergies. One dog had fleas (already!) one dog had a secondary bacterial infection and one a secondary yeast infection. Time to head to the vet's office to get this problem sorted our.
thesovo- I am really worried about your Chihuahau. They have such tiny fragile legs and may have a broken leg very near the wrist. Only an xray can tell for sure. Please consider applying for Care Credit or investigating a clinic in your area that is low cost to help with financing an xray. He may need a splint, but if not properly applied could permanently damage his leg. Let us know what happens.
Maybe there is a way you could see a veterinarian. Many veterinarians participate in a program called Care Credit. http://www.carecredit.com/vetmed/ The link above will have you find a pet healthcare provider who uses this plan and it might just be the stop gap measure you need until you are back at work.
rin86 WebMD has a good description of giardia from their human digestive disorders section. Giardia is one of those diseases that can affect both humans and pets. Your pet might even get the same medication your doctor would use if you had giardiasis. If you should get sick, be sure to tell your doctor about your dog since dogs and their humans often swim in the same lakes!
Dear Sarahsmith10, So sorry about your dog. Hemangiosarcoma is a terrible disease. I can answer some of your questions and I hope it will help you understand. The biospy report is clear, the tumor started in her spleen and spread to the other organs. How long this tumor was present is unknown, but I suspect only a few months based on my clinical experience. Hemangiosarcoma is associated with a derrangement of the blood's ability to clot. I suspect the bleeding was from a clotting abnormality caused by the tumor. The abnormality caused the skin bruising you saw and possibly internal bleeding as well.View Thread
