This string is old but it still might be useful to people or maybe some new info for those who have posted like me, might still be forthcoming.... I have a 4 1/2 year old foxhound or treeing walker coonhound. His symptoms are pretty much exactly what maxthedog describes for his dog. It is distressing as it has gone on now every few months for about three years. Longest break has been about a year. I thought it has gone but it came back. At first the vet thought it was an insect bite in the throat. As described above, it mostly starts at night, but not always. Today it began very mildly around lunchtime... This evening has been much worse though. Vets have postulated tumor, deformity, odd form of epilepsy. To me it looks like gastric reflux. Very distressing for him when it happens. Longest bouts have lasted for three or four days, every few hours or even every half an hour....
We haven't done any deep investigations because it always stops too soon and proceeding when the episode is over seems expensive and unlikely to show anything...
Hate it when it happens and would really appreciate some answers if anyone has had a dog with the same issue...View Thread
