My cat is in renal failure..and with that he really doesn't eat much but he went from 5 pounds to 9 lbs..by me hand feeding him KD diet..and gerber baby food..on a stick..he has no choice he can't spit it out it's to mushy ..and he gets boost vanilla drink in a baby bottle..I also switch to cranberry juice with pedialyte in it and twice a week he gets prune juice..since his body takes all his fluids..it is harder for cats with kidney failure to have a good bowel movement..and YES they urinate a ton...but replenish their bodies and they seem to bounce bk...believe me my cat who is 3 is beyond his 9 lives..he went from being on saline to normisol..which he responds better and get this..there is no way they could neuter him also..his one testicle is ascended and if they spay him like a female he won't make it..no biggie..he has no clue what its all about..he is doing fine..and will let me know when it is his time...hope this helped..View Thread

My cat was born with kidney disease..when it is his time to go he will let me know..if I can afford to keep up my routine he will live..I do not like making a decision to put anything to sleep since he cannot tell me or speak...he will have other ways to let me know he cannot go on...people have money to spend on fashion labels..they have a pet that pet comes first...otherwise they should not own a pet..you take the good with the bad..You can get Azodyl for $25.00 and well I.V bags of Normisol only go for $8.00 a bag or $100.00 for a case don't let anyone rip you off it is inexpensive to keep up treatment..If you cat is not eating ...give him or her some boost with protein in a bottle..take a small spatula and feed them baby food beef or turkey..I give my cat prune juice to help when he needs extra fiber to evacuate..he gets..cranberry juice and pedialyte in a bottle..he had gained 4 lbs already..so there are other holistic ways to help with the cats disease and nutrition..FIRST and FOREMOST is hydration..you can I.V your cat at home..it is so easy..if the cat is hard to handle..put the cat in the bathroom sink with the I.V bag over the door...because the sink restricts him from moving..it is easier to I.V at least 1 ML of either saline or normisol..If any of this helps.. then great..View Thread

I know this is a 2yr old thread but I have a young 3 yr old cat with kidney disease..I.V is done every day with normisol.. he gets cranberry juice and pedialyte in a bottle for more hydration..he gets every 4 hrs..boost protein shake in a bottle..and he gets.. KD food along with beef baby food puree.. he also gets prune juice to help with his bowel movements..He is also on azodyl ...so whoever says there is nothing you can do..there is plenty you can do..as long as he keeps urinating fine and having normal bowel movements..the hydration is the key..View Thread
