http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJvbW3yrJTk Seriously, this is identical, to what my dog was doing, adding in the frantic licking of the floor... Something clearly going on here that we are all seeing. What is it? Any vet students need a research project -- this might be a good one!View Thread
And, you know what!? Yes, I had poured bleach all over the bathroom that day. I know he didn't lick it. Perhaps the smell? Though I cannot relate that to the incidence at my parents on Christmas Eve? Maybe she had cleaned in preparation for the party? Not sure!View Thread
SAME thing here. Have had our GSD for 6 months (rescue) and he's had two incidents, both identical to those described. I am not inclined to take him for a vet check, though, as I have done so much internet research, and seems lots of people have spent lots of money with all kinds of tests and hypotheses as to what it can be (neurological, intestinal, psychological -- it can't even be 'categorized' yet?! Most have found no 'real' solution, so I'm not inclined to spend lots of money on tests. He's otherwise very healthy, happy and overall wonderful. In my dogs case, he starts licking the floor frantically -- and then doing the strange gulping in between. He starts running around in a bit of a panic. The first time it happened was Christmas Eve, and we were visiting my family. He drenched the carpet with his licking. It happened again the other night. Got up from sleep, in which he seemed to be having a bad dream (stress? seizure? bad heartburn?) I gave him water, which he gulped and kept licking the bowl, staring at me, wanting more. I tried calming him, which would work for 2-3 minutes but then he wanted to start running around licking the floor. I tried giving him his favorite squeaky toy, thinking it would distract him from the licking and gulping and instead he shredded it, and tried eating pieces of it! He NEVER does that, just runs around squeaking it. After about 20 minutes he let out a HUGE (huge!) burp (thankfully) but, that was from gulping air I assume (a side effect rather than the initial cause). I found one video on You tube in which the dog is doing EXACTLY this licking gulping -- along with a weird head movement. Seems we all have experience here with something that is as yet undiagnosed. Any new thoughts or comments??View Thread
