Someone just posted on the facebook page & mentioned gas drops, as well as WebMD pets, which reminded me to come back here & check on responses. If that was you, thank you! Even if it wasn't, thank you for responding. Roscoe has been gulpy all weekend & I've been so frustrated not being able to help him. So I will definitely go out & purchase some gas drops! Thank you!View Thread
If anyone is interested, I thought it would be beneficial to create a place where everyone could relate experiences, share info, support & share remedies that work for their dogs with this gulping problem. There's really no name for this thing, so I made up the name "Dog Gulping Disorder Awareness and Owner Support" for a page on facebook. I'm trying to spread the word because the more people sharing info, the closer we can get to finding some answers. I haven't been able to find a vet who has heard of it yet, & I've paid to have full blood work & x-rays done that all were normal. It's frustrating & breaks my heart to see my dog so frantic & sick
The link for the facebook page is www.facebook/gulpydogs
Or you can just type in the search bar on facebook: Dog Gulping Disorder Awareness and Owner Support. You'll see a picture of my dog, Roscoe, laying in his bed. -Not feeling too well after having a gulping episode
I just found this thread & posted a little while ago. It's comforting knowing that other dogs are having this issue. Not so much that they're having an issue but that we're not alone in this.
It would be so nice to know what the cause is. I have thought that it was diet related, all along, but mine has been on grain free & several different proteins/carbs & brands now trying to figure out which food may work for him. I just started half fresh, cooked food with his kibble about four days ago, but last night he had another gulping episode. He's been a little gulpy today as well. Still trying to figure out the best diet.
If we could find out what is common among all of our dogs, we may be able to start figuring out what the cause is. I mean, we're not vets, but two conventional veterinarians & one holistic vet thus far have had no clue what is wrong with my dog, so maybe we can put our heads together. It's been 7 months for us, tests & thousands of dollars later, 7 we are no closer to an answer on this.
How is your pup doing? Has your dog had any episodes since you switched to high protein?View Thread
So much of what you describe here is what we've been going through with our poor pup, Roscoe. He has been to three different vets, had blood work done with normal results & no diagnosis. It is so frustrating because there is obviously something wrong with him. I have switched his food several times (keeping it grain-free) & it hasn't helped alleviate the gulping, licking, frantic grass eating. It's typically occurring at night, I've noticed & has gotten more frequent lately. Has been going on for about 7 months now.
