A year before planning pregnancy we did a basic check and realized that my wife has a high a TSH count of 53, doc said she has hypo thyroid and suggested us medication. Doc also asked us to keep the planning on hold. We gradually reduced the count to 8, 6 and finally 1, maintained it for few months. Medication was increased/decreased based on the counts. We started our planning as per the internal medicine doc and gynecologist. After two months we did a re-check and TSH count again shot high to 8, within few days later we realized that she was pregnant. Doc said, that's fine as TSH requirement will go up and medicines, so he increased medication to 87.5 mg. My wife is now in her first trimester, entering 3rd month, her TSI count has again gone up to 9.25. The dosage is now increased to 125 mg.
We are now starting to worry. Brain development is crucial in the first trimester and as per lots of websites high TSH count is not at all good for the child's brain development. She was on doc watch both internal and gynecologist for the past 1 year, now this rapid raise in TSI count has really shattered us with worry. Please help and let me know what to do or what to ask the doctor.
This blog is not that I don't trust the doctors, they are the best in the island. I just want to know if there is a possibility that this high count will affect our child!!, what could we do to reduce the TSH count or what all questions should I ask the doctor.
We learnt yesterday that my wife is 4-5 weeks pregnant (4 weeks exact as per our count), extremely delighted and overjoyed about the news , but also worried!! Last week, she flew to India and back (4 hours one way), did some 5-6 hour road trips also there. Should we be worried! There was no major known incident, but heard from a lot of friends that we need to be extremly careful during the first 3 months. We have our doc appointment is on 8th. Just wanted to know the implication. Please help.View Thread
