Sorry I know this subject doesnt fit with the over all topic but I didnt know where to post it. The message boards on here have changed since the last time I logged on and I couldn't locate the general health board.
I recently had a bout with gout and I finally made it to the doctor yesterday. He prescribed an anti-inflammatory and a med to decrease the uric acid production. Anyways I keep hearing that I should stay away from alcohol and I was curious to know if that is for the rest of my life or just for a while? I'm not an alcoholic or anything but I do occasionally like to drink. I cant find any a proper answer to my question anywhere online. Thanks for any help.View Thread
I'm never going to be able to live like this. I have no clue how people who have had gout for years can stand it. It's a rough rough condition. Just the diet stuff alone is enough to drive me crazy let alone the foot pain.View Thread
The only thing I can figure out is turkey bacon is what caused my flare up. I'm going to have a long life ducking and dodging foods I like. I'm a big seafood person. They need to figure out how to stop gout. Ha take care.View Thread
Hey, that is great about him being sober for 20 years.
Which meds did they put him on? I'm on allopurinol but I'm not sure what the point of the medicine is. The doctor claimed it was to help lower the levels of uric acid but I feel like I will be having a flare up and I haven't eaten enough of anything that would make me believe I should be having an episode. So now I have to call the pharmacy and get a refill for my anti-inflammatory.View Thread
I'm in the same boat as your husband. I was diagnosed with gout last week. I've never had it explained properly to me why it cant be cured. I have a friend who told me that alcohol is off limits which sucks for me. I'm not an alcoholic but I do from time to time enjoy having a couple drinks. A nurse explained to me that since alcohol dehydrates you your body makes more uric acid therefore making the gout worse. I wasnt told that all meat was bad but I did read something about organ meats and things like that were off limits. I cant remember eating organ meats. Here's hoping they come up with a cure in the near future.View Thread
That is rough Dr. Zashin. Like I said before I'm not an alcoholic but if I couldnt have any alcohol for the rest of my life it would be bad. I dont see too much on the food list that I eat that often so that wont be a big deal.View Thread
Hey thanks for the reply. I noticed most of the foods on the list of untouchables I don't really eat so I think I will be fine over all but like I said I do occasionally like to have some alcohol and I couldn't find a reason for why it was hard to handle. It's pretty painful stuff that is for sure. I could barely walk from Saturday until yesterday. It started in my ankle and then went to my big toe and it was just bad.View Thread
