My body had an almost immediate intense burning reaction to Paragard and I had to have it removed 4 days later. It was inserted on Monday and an ultrasound showed it was placed correctly. A sharp ache in my cervix continued for the rest of the day and into the next. By Tuesday I started to have a burning sensation which felt similar to a bladder infection. I returned to my doctor on Wednesday with concerns and had a second ultrasound to confirm the IUD was still placed correctly which it was, and to rule out infection. Everything still looked fine to my doctor so I thought maybe my body just needed another day to adjust. But by Thursday night the burning was SO intense it was completely unbearable. I had the IUD removed Friday morning and again my doctor detected no sign of any infection. By Friday afternoon just hours after it was removed the burning had subsided considerably. My doctor said he had never had, or heard of, any other patient having this type of reaction. I'm wondering if I'm sensitive to the metals in Paragard. If that was the problem, I wish there was a way I could have been tested for it prior. Such a frightening, terrible experience. If you know you have a sensitivity to metals, jewelry, etc please think twice about selecting Paragard. I would hate to have you go through what I went through.View Thread
