The experience of dreaming while being awake, usually right after awakening can be associated with a sleep disorder. When this happens on awakening it is called hypnopompic hallucinations, when it happens as one is falling asleep it is called hypnagogic hallucinations. It is a strange feeling, I have narcolepsy and a form of restless leg syndrome (or in my case, restless body syndrome). I have had both types of these hallucinations where I am awake, but still dreaming, and at times paralyzed. It can be frightening.
I recommend talking to your primary care provider, a referral to a neurologist who specializes in sleep disorders may be able to diagnose the problem and treat it. Also, any other possible causes (side effects of medications, etc) can be ruled out. I sleep and feel much better overall now that the condition and associated problems are under better control.View Thread
