Are there any programs for people who are totally isolated from other people therefore not having the support environment that all the major programs feel is necessary for successful quitting? Consensus of the programs from the American Heart Association to the American Cancer Society agree that support from family and friends is about 90% of the key to successfully quitting with 10% personal willpower and desire. Unfortunately I suffer from acute agoraphobia which leaves me isolated and only having human interaction to about 45 minutes to an hour a month. I have given them this scenario and they are stumped as to what to recommend as an alternative to the needed support requirement. I can not take Wellbutrin or Chantax because of contraindications to cardiac medications I take for recent cardiac events (two stents implanted) so chemical means intervention has thus far been ruled out leaving only cognitive behavioral therapy. The ironic thing is that I was able to stop taking anti-depressants after 35 years which I had become dependent upon for the agoraphobia and also stopped using alcohol , but quitting smoking I have failed at only reducing my intake by 65% (15 to 20 per day) I am 62 years old and running out of time. Any advice would be appreciated, Thank you. PCP and Cardiologists recommend the three top cessation programs then pretty much wash their hands after that.View Thread
