First of all, let be be very open in that I operate a web site selling electronic cigarettes.

I started the site after smoking heavily and trying to quit for some forty years by every means available and just could not give up. My brother suggested I try an electronic cigarette and thankfully, I succeeded.

The biggest problem I faced was that there was very little information and various governments were undecided about whether to simple ban or endorse electronic cigarettes. Most brands (or the liquid contained in them) were manufactured in the Far East and the contents vary enormously, both in ingredients and levels of purity. Often it is impossible to tell exactly what they contain but still the liquid is exported around the world.

Many contain Propylene Glycol to produce the vapour but the better ones use vegetable glycerine which is used throughout the world in the food industry. Furthermore, in the UK, the brand I chose is working with the British MHRA who are ulitmately responsible for licensing products for sale as a fully endorsed medical product which will help set standards and give some guidance to consumers.

In the end though, the ultmate test is the fact that whilst governments debate the pros and cons, thousands of smokers have managed to move away from the tar and smoke associated with cigarettes when they otherwise could not have done.

It has now been three and a half years since I quite tobacco and I haven't looked back. In that time I have received a huge number of testimonials and similar stories. My advice will always be:

'If you are going to inhale any product then research is vital. Check that you can trace the ingredients, the origin and that their purity is tested and known. Just because they are not banned it doesn't mean they are endorsed so it is the responsibilty of the smoker to evaluate any risk and make an informed choice before buying an electronic cigarette.'

Without medical licensing, in the UK at least, then it is important that the customer weighs up the possible benefits and makes the decision to use them for his or her self since everyone's circumstances or level of addiction is different.
