I've been successfully smokeless for 13 wks plus, using the patch. It has seemed very easy until now, when I'm transitioning off the Step 3 patch completely. I'd started with Step 2 because I'd only smoked 5-6 cigs per day before. I continued Step 2 for 6 weeks before switching to Step 3. After 4 weeks on Step 3, I began using a patch every other day, and this past week no patches at all. My anxiety/irritability levels are now much higher than normal, and I am gaining weight steadily. Cravings have returned and I fantasize about having just one cigarette. Eating fatty sugary junk food seems to be the only way to (temporarily) assuage those cravings, but I am getting depressed at the 15+ lbs I've put on in the past 3 months. When I think of where I'll be in 6 months with this, I really think I'm going to win at the smoking cessation, only to lose in the weight gain/self esteem contest. On a side note (or maybe it's more central than that), my struggle has been a private one: since I live alone, no one knew I'd been smoking, so I told no one I was quitting. What's next?
