There was no bruising, dimpling, loss of strength or severe pain. I finished my work out and stretch with no difficulty. I continue to have full functionality.
I visited a sports medicine doctor who said this is just a tear and can only heal on its own. However, it's been seven (!!!!!!) months and I'm still experiencing discomfort in the area, as well as mild pain once to twice a day (< 2 on the pain scale).
I haven't exercised at all this whole time. Taking this much time off is killing me and I'm eager to get back in the gym.
Perhaps its a bad analogy, but Justin Smith (SF 49ers) and Ray Lewis (Baltimore Ravens) both had very bad muscle tears early in the season and played only months later in the NFL playoffs. I can't see my injury being more severe than theirs.
What's wrong? Was the doctor I saw a quack? Have I ruptured a muscle? Do I need surgery? When can I expect to start lifting again?View Thread
About 3 week ago i did a work out involving a lot of repetitions of pull-ups. After that workout i had a bad case of D.O.M.S for about a week - my muscles were really tight, sour and swollen. After it passed i noticed two things that changed: First It felt like i gained more range of motion - i might be wrong on this one - and the second which bothers me more is the fact that before i had the incident i could pull myself up for at least 10 reps and now i can hardly pull 2.
What might have caused that? Should i consult a physician?
What would you recommend as the best way to get my old capabilities back?
Thanks,
GuyView Thread
I've experienced multiple types of muscle and ligament injuries in my life, but none like this one. Some 5k races are coming up this spring, and I am hoping to compete!
Thanks for any input.View Thread
I am a single tennis player. I have been playing tennis for 10 years. I have been more serious in this sport for pass three years. I joined a league few years ago, and have been playing 3 times a week ever since. I am recently diagnosed with a mild broad-bashe disc bulging L4-L5, but not other disc herniation, neuroforaminal, encroachment or disc fragment. My doctor sent me to physical therapies for 4 weeks. I am in 2nd week after my injury, and I haven't get to PT yet, but I am already feeling much better every day. The pain on my left leg is almost gone, it is just my lower back is still a little bit stiff. I am wondering when will I get completely recovered? Will I be able to play tennis again? How long should I wait to play again?
Thanks

My wife swears by Aspercreme but my feeling is that this doesn't help the muscles heal, it just masks the pain and if I take that route and work out I could potentially do more damage.
1. Am I correct in my assessment that if I've not recovered enough to complete simple exercise movements without significant pain that I should continue to rest?
2. Am I correct in my assessment that masking the pain with a pain reliever in order to enable me to work out increases the probability of additional damage and an even longer recovery?
3. Does four days seem excessive recovery time for a set of pushups, pullups and situps given no significant exercise in about 25 years?View Thread
My daughter fracture her arm about 2 weeks ago. I took her to the orthopedic. I was told to take her back in 3 weeks. Does it reaaly takes 3 weeks for the fracture to heal? I got the sense of the Orthopedic is being greedy, and the only reason he wants us to go back so quick is because he wants to bill the insurance, and I as much as he can. Somene please advice.View Thread
Anyways, my name is Diego, I play soccer and baseball, last august i was playing soccer in a rec league which happened to be played on a turf field, I was wearing soccer cleats, while I was playing I decided to slide tackle the opponent, unfortunately when I was impulsing my right foot got stuck and down I went, I heard a pop and right away I thought it had been my knee but when I stood up my ankle was in pain, its my first injury ankle injury, The ankle didnt swell that much, but i Couldnt walk on it for a couple of days, I thought it was a light sprain. about a month later I decided to go the Dr, they had me do xrays but nothing seems wrong, she sent me PT, but after the first 3 months no difference was noted. My ankle rolled inwards, and now when I am sitting down and lift up my foot , if I push it outwards the right side of my ankle hurts like something is being pulled, another thing ive noticed is that if I stand on my toes my right calf feels weird almost like if its shorter than my left, I feel like its pulled.
I can walk and run( but very little).
I went for a second opinion and they prescribed custom insoles, I got them, they feel really comfortable but its been a few weeks and I honestly dont feel any better, would you recommend getting an MRI after so long?View Thread

I'm trying to find her a doctor under my insurance (were recently married) but we are having a difficult time pinning down the type of doctor that will best help determine the injury and surgery/therapy options needed.
What is specifically the most likely injury and what should we be searching for in a doctor?View Thread
That Friday I went to a MedExpress to make sure I didn't break any ribs. They did a quick diagnosis, x-ray, and said that it was probably just a pulled muscle or bruise and gave me Vicodin and Soma. I haven't taken either of these yet, because I figured I could deal with the pain of a pulled muscle...I've done it plenty of times before without narcotics. Ibuprofen was also helping, a little.
The pain has subsided a bit. I can sleep most of the night, however, breathing deeply still hurts quite a bit. Coughing, laughing, sneezing are all very painful.
When I push on the area that is tender on my chest it brings me to my knees. However, I seem to have full range of motion with my left arm and that seems curious for a pulled muscle. It's painful to move but not nearly as painful as breathing or pushing on the specific, inured area.
I'm afraid that it is a bruised lung, pleurisy, or torn rib cartilage. I understand that there isn't much to do for it, but I believe the supportive care for each injury is different. Should I have a second opinion from a different physician? I just want to be able to breathe comfortably and know when I can get back to training. Many thanks!View Thread
I am 16, and I've already had an arthroscopic knee surgery. I have been continuing to return to my doctor due to the knee pain I've been having, but I'm also noticing that theres a crunchy sound coming from my knee. It doesn't hurt unless I am putting pressure on it and it only happens when I'm bending it.
I would really love to get some help on what to do about this and if there are any exercises or anything at all really to help stop it?
Thanks!View Thread
