With a long thoracic nerve palsy you would have a winged scapula. When you put your arms out in front of you the shoulder blade on that side would stick out from your thorax instead of laying flat like on the uninvolved side. Bursitis/tendonitis is more pain and pain with certain movements. Without a proper physical exam it is hard to say but I wuold recommend having this looked at.View Thread

Well this can be a result of a number of things. Commonly when we exercise we dilate our peripheral capillary beds shunting blood towards the skin to assist with cooling. This capilarry dilitation can lead to an itching sensation. NO may have some vasodilitory properties and thus be enhancing these feelings.
More ominous is exervise related anaphylaxis in which with high intensity exercise your body can have a reaction similar to any other allergic reaction. This is not very common but if you experience other symptoms beyond just itching I would seek the advice of a local sports doc.
Prolotherapy does work for some people and not for others. It is typically a cash procedure and it typically takes multiple sessions to get things better. What is used and how the injections are done is very variable. There is no data out there to guarantee you success and the impact to the wallet is very real. THere a a ton of people who have had relief and I would recommend looking on the web for someone in your area who is both knowledgeable in prolo and spine. Sounds like this first doc was a reasonable choice. You can alway see out a second opinion but in the end no one will guarantee you success. Chronic pelvic pain is tricky and unless they can figure out which structures are causing the pain your success may be limited. Overall weight will depend on his position on the field. If he has hoped to be on the O-line then he may be small. if he is a quarterback he may be perfect. Overall he needs an adequate balance of protein carbs and fat in his diet. Carb loading I typically reserve more for the endurance athletes but keeping properly fueled up is very important. I think in the end god common sense is key. He is a big kid and obviously very active. He needs to eat a lot to keep up and this should be a well balanced diet. He should also be very aware of keeping well hydrated but not just water loading the day of a game. I am sure there are college demographics for typical size for each position on the field but at 15 the most important factor is enough of all of the vitamins, minerals and protein that his bodies requires to stay healthy and fit.View Thread
Not sure how they diagnosed torn tendons on an Xray but either way with that much disability and swelling you need to have another look. When in a boot then a cast swelling is not uncommon. Once you get it moving it will likely start to turn around much quicker. That is if it is stable enough to handle that. There is also a condition called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy or RSD which can cause out of proportion pain and disability from relatively simple injuries like and ankle sprain. I would get an orthopedic or sports doc to take another look at this and help get you back on your feet.View Thread
You can absolutely tear a muscle just about anywhere in the body. If se has a muscle that looks different than the other side she needs to have it evaluated. Muscles can also swell from new levels of activity and this swelling can also cause problems. Have your friend get this checked out.View Thread
Piriformis syndrome can present lie this, you could have a proximal hamstring tendinopathy or even sciatica although without symptoms radiating down your leg this is less likely. I would see a physical therapist and get some good stretching exercises to see if you can work it out, if not helping go get a proper diagnosis from a specialist. COming back to JiuJitsu and Kettlebell after a few years rest can be a real problem if you are not careful. "a few years" is a long time to detrain muscles and tendons and leave you a lot weaker than you thought you were.
Tendonitis is not an infectious condition and thus does not typically spread as you have described. There are patients with rheumatologic conditions that can have diffuse tendinopathy but this does not sound like what he has. He may just have a conglomeration of overuse injuries from whatever his is doing in Afganistan. Anti-inflammatory medications are a good start and will help with his pain. If he has redness and swelling he need to get properly evaluated to make sure this is really tendonitis.View Thread
