See a specialist. One Xray immediately after injury does not rule out all severe injuries. You may just have instability from a severe sprain and need rehab, but you might have a more significant injury requiring more imaging or potentially other more significant interventions. One of the common quad muscles to tear is the rectus femoris. This is not uncommon and if functionally you are not having any deficits I think you got very good advice. One of the worst things you can do it have a surgical intervention for something that would do fine without it. Surgery is not benign and comes with consequences that cannot be undone. There are times when it is absolutely necessary but if not just be happy. In the long run you should not have any problems.View Thread
So it is possible to have a bone bruise although getting this from a stretch is a new on to me. Did he have any manipulation prior to this? It sounds more like a nerve issue than a bone bruise with that kind of radicular pain from thigh to calf. What is pinching the nerve? Does he have a herniated disc? How about suggesting he sees a PT trained in back rehab. If that does not work try a spine doc for a simple injection. He can also try MacKenzie (sp?) back exercises, google these they are terrific for lumbar back problems.View Thread
Losing feeling is obviously not a good thing. Your digital nerves travel up the sides of your fingers, and it is possible that either the initial injury or the swelling pinched the nerve thus causing these symptoms. If you have a trainer to show this to go ahead and do so. They have seen so many similar injuries that they will very quickly be able to tell you if you are over-reacting or if you need to seek further help. You may have a joint capsule injury, a ligament injury a fracture or who know what but you need someone trained in these to give it a look. Good luck.View Thread
this could be your piriformis muscle which can get tight and cause this type of symptom. Additionally a glut medius or minimus tendinopathy can cause similar butt pain. Stretching may help and often strengthening might be in order. I would get a better diagnosis before I worried too much about how to make it better. From your brief description I might lean toward the glut tendinopathy. These muscles act like the rotator cuff of the hip and once strained can be a bugger to get better.View Thread
I think PRP is a better first shot than prolo for this. I do not have any experience with back prolo or PRP but I know bone healing and spine surgery has been using PRP for a long time. You need to find a PRP doc who is fascile in treating back injuries. Good luck, these are tough cases.View Thread
that is somewhat worrisome. Red hot and painful with difficulty moving can be an infection. It is hard to say over the internet, and hopefully this is not, but for a college student to have that much disability is concerning and I would get it looked at.View Thread
