From my experience, although my ankle will never be the way it was before my injury, surgery improve my situation a lot; and I am glad I did it.View Thread

The third ortho doc was specializing in foot and ankle and it made all the difference.
My problem was that I had a talar fracture that went undiagnosed and it resulted in cartilage damage. I underwent arthroscopy last summer to remove a cartilage flap.
I am a kickboxer and 2 months after surgery I was medically cleared to start training and 4 months after surgery I was fighting. I am now training 9 hours a week in kickboxing, tae kwon doe and jiu jit-su.
I hope you'll find a solution to your problems and don't give up.
All the best!View Thread

Good luck to you and your daughter and hope her ankle feels better soon.View Thread

I've had a severe ankle sprain with 2 ligaments torn 16 months ago and managed to crack a bone at the same time. So from my experience, a severe ankle sprain may take up to 3-4 months to heal.
You mentioned a popping sound, from what I learned this past year and few months; often a popping sound means that ligaments are torn and a cracking sound means that there might be a fracture. But it is NOT always true. When I had my injury, I heard a cracking sound and felt it too.
You didn't mention if you were icing it, if you aren't try it, it may help a lot with the swelling and inflammation. Wearing shoes with a good arch support may help, if you aren't.
Other than that, you may need to go back to your Doctor or Physical therapist.View Thread

My GP sent me to another Orthopedist and he has a different whole different opinion than the first othopedist. He said that all of my symptoms might be due to a bone fragment that is loose due to a chipped bone. He said that I might need an arthroscopy procedure to remove it or it might go on its own. He's sending me for an MRI to see what's going on. I had many X-rays done, bone scan and CT scan but not the MRI. The waiting list is 2-3 months for the MRI. I will know then what to do. Good news is that I won't have to wear a brace for the rest of my life.
