There is a new school of thought emerging on how to prevent ankle sprains. A new training device called "The Shifter" has shown to increase the sensitivity of a reflex in your legs called the crossed-extensor reflex. Training on this machine makes your crossed-extensor reflex fast enough to make sure you stop producing force through an ankle inversion, a slip, or many other types of "mis-steps" that normally lead to injury. The injury is not usually caused by the mis-step itself, but rather from producing force through the mis-step. This heightening of the reflex means it also helps to prevent many slips and falls.
