I'm so incredibly sorry to hear about your father and can understand how you want to know exactly why this would happen. My father also passed away at a young age, though of small cell cancer and I definitely question where and why it all started.
Unfortunately, your father's doctors will probably be the only ones who might discover what the root of these strokes stemmed from. Here is the WebMD Stroke Topic Overview and the WebMD Stroke Causes Overview to give you a list of ideas to speak with his doctors about. I wish that I had more of an answer and hope that you and your family are doing okay.
Please take care and do keep us posted if you find any new news towards your concern.
I'm so sorry to hear about the turn of events with your brother and hope that things are improving, now.
Unfortunately, as Dr. Senelick stated, "Trying to predict a patient's eventual level of improvement and how long it will take is always difficult." Each case is different, though cognitive skills can return for some patients, others may not regain such strengths. Here is a Caregiver's Guide on Cognitive Problems as well as a Stroke Rehabilitation Guide .
Please let us know how you are all doing. My thoughts are with your brother, you and your family.
I just wanted to thank you for coming back and sharing your experiences and insight with others after all of your therapy and hard work. I hope that you are staying more positive and things are even better for you this year!
As you can see, we are now fortunate enough to have an amazing Stroke Community Expert, Dr. Richard Senelick , specializing in both neurology and the subspecialty of neurorehabilitation. If you ever have any questions or concerns, I hope that you will post a new discussion for our expert as well as members. Please take care of yourself and keep us posted on how things are for you.
I'm so sorry to hear that you are going through all of this, MamaS07.
Is there any way that you could find a different neurologist in town that is not at this office? If this practice won't switch doctors or see you about your concern, then a second opinion sounds like your best bet. You definitely deserve to be seen.
Please keep us posted and take care of yourself. AmeliaView Thread
I apologize for the late reply, but wish your friend the very best of recovery. Every experience is different for a stroke patient, so I'm not sure if there is a "norm" to really compare his situation. Other members as well as our wonderful expert, Dr. Senelick could definitely relate instances with you, I am sure.
Is your friend seeing a physical therapist, now? What has his doctor suggested towards rehabilitation, thus far?
I think you are wonderful! This post made me smile from ear to ear. I'm so glad that the community has made a difference in your life, that you and your husband have worked together to accomplish so much and that you are just going sooo strong and sharing your story. Congratulations on your feats!
I'm so sorry to hear about your lovely wife. I know that it can't be easy for you at all and hope that you are taking things each day at a time.
How are you holding up at the moment? Do you have a good support group of friends, family or possibly a group in your community?
Please let us know. I lost my father to small cell cancer just a year after he was diagnosed. I am sure that a spouse is much different and often harder depending on the relationship, but I do understand some of the overwhelming pain and emotions that you might be experiencing. My heart goes out to you and you will be in my thoughts and prayers. If you would like to reach out to other members who have also recently lost love ones, WebMD does have a Grief & Loss Community that you are welcome to post in, along with this one.
Please take care of yourself and keep us posted. ((((hugs)))) AmeliaView Thread
