Nancy, your mom's transfer seems futile. Are you in metro area, btw? We'll write off any PEG NH. Militant after reading that piece. I went to patient relations today to request Italian interpreter whenever speech path performs tests. A new nurse spurred this idea. He offered a Russian interpreter to a lady in med profession across from me who got her mom to swallow crushed ice, no witnesses. (She rejected it; SP is Russian.) It can tip the scale. She made swallow effort past few days on my father's instruction. My mom opened both eyes too! The deep sleep days seem over. Small victory, as you know. Doc I've been ducking nailed me at elevator bank. He asked if we made PEG decision. I said no, he asked when. Friday? I lied. Stalling him is absolute least of my worries.View Thread
Awful. Stroke now 14 days. Awakening goal! The speech pathologist I spoke with yesterday said she has rejected swab and ice nudges when she investigated her swallowing ability. We were recommended to get her PEG, but are holding off, due to W. Plank's damning "To PEG or Not To PEG" 2006 article. Much higher PEG mortality when done in patient over out patient, for some reason. Should we PEG? Your mom's progress gives hope mine will open her eyes soon enough! tPA is "miracle" clot buster, FDA 1996.View Thread
Sorry. I have two. Stroke was now 14 days ago. When will she awaken? Hi, I'm 246500. That's my future, her sleeping in NH instead of hospital. The only thing that will change will be our commute. They already booted her from stroke unit to a room two doors down, with 3 roomies in stroke recovery. Two w/DNR bracelets. Did she get tPA? How old is she again? I am new here.View Thread
Mom, 87, had a left side stroke 8 days ago. 3 CVAs, tPA in 2.5 hrs from attack. She has a swallow test in 2 days. Awaken/swallow timeline? We go to hospital, but very little progress. 2 days ago a rehab Dr. rubbed a metal shoe horn device under her soles, responsive. She licked her lip to generate moisture at one point. Tongue is scaly, flaky. Has gained 3 kg in week, now 87 pounds.View Thread
