ITuesday Feb. 12, I found a lump on my thyroid. It was tender, and caused discomfort when swallowing, coughing, laughing, etc. I went to my GPand he contacted an endocrinologist. Blood tests were ordered. I had an appointment with the ENDO the following Tuesday. Blood results were "normal". Ultrasound revealed a fluid filled cyst with solid masses (2). Biopsies were done, and I am currently awaiting the results. I am extremely nervous about the results, which I am hoping to get later today. My anxiety level is high. I have no idea what to expect. I have exhibited symptoms of hypothyroid for over a year, but never had my thyroid tested. The cyst appeared rather quickly. Anyone else dealing with this type of sudden occurence?View Thread

Also, I had my ultrasound on Dec 28th and I don't get my biopsy until next week and my results until Feb 11th. Is this usually the normal time frame for this sort of thing? Also who makes the call on removing my thyroid if necessary. The surgeon or my endocrinologist?
Thanks again,

I read recently its hard for us to breakdown sugar like normal people with a thyroid. What foods should we avoid after thyroidectomy? Honestly I have been so sick of going to doctors when I feel bad I just suck it up but I am ready to fix this and enjoy my youth.
I am 5'9 and 130 pounds so I am not overweight but weight is gained quickly unless I watch what I eat strictly. NOT FUN! please let me know your stories and advice ...anything. good to know we can all take this journey together.

I have read about the symptoms, and I seem to have a few that I always attributed to other causes.
My doc says I am fine, should I look into it with a different doctor?View Thread

Tuesday PM I noticed some swelling at the base of the front of my neck, just to the right side. A few hours later it started to feel tender, and since then it has become painful to yawn, laugh, swallow, or move my head. Not an intolerable pain, but certainly uncomfortable and irritating.
I went to my doctor today, where they measured a 99.8º temp (I am usually around 97.
, which was a surprise to me as I haven't felt particularly feverish save for maybe a couple hours yesterday afternoon. No other glands seem to be swollen, so my doctor suspected thyroid and ordered a blood test and ultrasound. I have had both of those done and am awaiting results. The ultrasound tech told me off the record that I have a fluid filled cyst on my right thyroid. She suggested that I should not be worried. She implied that a biopsy would have been ordered due to its size had there been any solids present, but since it is all fluid that will not be the case. More likely than not, it will be a monitor-over-time situation. (She really emphasized that I should not worry myself.)
In the meantime, while I await the test results, are there any lifestyle changes I should make? Nobody told me how to act, other than that I could take advil to decrease the pain. Should I stay home, get rest? Should I avoid exercise? Talking? How about alcohol? And, does anyone know of any other ways to help relieve the discomfort?
Any advice is highly appreciated. (As are reassurances, because despite the suggestions to keep calm, I am really kind of freaking out about the whole thing.)View Thread
In 2000, I was found to have severely high levels of insulin which resulted in the removal of most of my pancreas. The post surgery diagnosis was Islet Cell Hyperplasia. An extremely rare condition. For two year afterwards, I felt better than I ever had in my life. My health slowly deteriorated after that. In 2005, after several visits to the doctor, a Cancerous tumor was found in my thyroid. It was removed but I continue to be plagued by chronic fatigue along with many other odd symptoms.
I have had extreme difficulty finding a good Endocrinologist that will take the time to figure out what is wrong with me. How do others find a good doctor? Are there any web sites that have recommendations from people who have uncommon endocrine disorders? I live in Maryland, near DC. Can anyone recommend a doctor in my area? I hate blindly choosing doctors only to find out after lots of time and effort that they are generally unmotivated or overwhelmed with type2 diabetes patients etc...View Thread
