Hello everyone! Its been a while since ive posted and just wanted to update and ask some questions. Today i saw my endocrinologist for the first time since he decreased my dose to 5mg two months ago and my labs today were TSH 1.0 and free T4 0.031. After a year of this 2 months of it being hypo taking levothyroxine then 10 months on methimazole due to becoming hyper I AM FINALLY STOPPING MY MEDS! I am optimistic of whats to come but im being monitored in a month.
Has anyone had any side effects if theyve stopped methimazole? What should i expect? Thanks.View Thread
The meds caused me to gain weight id gain 5 pounds then lose it then gain it but never dropped below the weight i was when i first started methimazole just try and maintain a healthy diet because you can gain it so easilyView Thread
I gained 6 pounds too but lost it he said i need to watch my eating habits since im sort of normal also said people with thyroid problems are high risk for diabetes so i have to be careful. I wish you the best of luck and just eat well and take care!View Thread
Wpooh27 tell him all your symptoms.. if you havent been diagnosed with a thyroid disorder make sure you let your doctor know your symptoms that is how i was diagnosed i had swollen lymph nodes in my throat fatigue always tired sweating muscle pain and excessive weight gain even excersising and ieting all the symptoms you have will help him diagnose you as well as have you tested. Best of luck!View Thread
Itll get better i was on methimazole 2x a day for a month and my labs were normal!!! my doc is still pushing RAI because he says this can flip flop. He gave me an option of one pill a day or none and i chose none i hope i made the right choice! Good luck and make RAI your last choice they will always push but try everything else first.View Thread
Just wanted to let you ladies know that i went to the doctor and my levels are FINALLY NORMAL! I am so happy i was taking 2 methimazole pills a day and he said i can either drop down to one or stop taking it all together. I stopped taking it because the pills were making me very sick and nauseated. I am so happy i hope it keeps going well. Good luck to you all!View Thread
Thanks Catmagic... and yes all the information ive posted was advice from my endocrinologist. Im taking methimazole twice once a day because i am still refusing the RAI. I see him in one month hopefully this would help. Do you know if methimazole can cause weight gain in a little as week? He has reffered me to an eye doctor because im experiencing very dry eyes and problems focusing my lids always feel heavy it hurts keeping my eyes open.
Santiago I dont have a goiter according to the RAI scan they did but i need a second opinion because i have large noticeable lumps in my neck which are painful to the touch.View Thread
From what my doctor told my surgery is not recommended. Reason being to the attachment of the thyroid to the vocal cord that is one of the complications that can happen if they accidentally cut it. Research all your options surgery should always be the last choice. Id rather do RAI than surgery and RAI can kill off the tissues to your nodules this is according to what my endo told me. Good luck! \View Thread
