Janie, you are so right. That is why I searched this site out also; I knew I could not be the only one. And as you have seen, we are not. I just wanted an 'intelligent' answer, and no one has it. Techs say you don't feel anything...mine was so painful, I had to have them stop it. Than they did proceed after an injection to 'numb' my leg so I could tolerate it. Still felt the 'pulling' of my knee cap, like they were going to pull it out. And I was also, like you, flabbergasted as the first posting was 6 years ago...why no answers? To me, it should be a scientist or someone that is in the field of science/medicine... I am sure my next go around will not be an MRI...MRI's are an important medical test, but all we want is an answer as to why...View Thread

At least you have some intelligence about the whole strange phenomenon...thank you. You are correct in the fact that MRI's are an important diagnosis for the ills of our organs, etc..I have done some investigating into all of this strange occurrences we have all experienced. And it will take a 'scientist' to figure all of this out. As now, see the 'dangers' relating to CT scans as far as 'radiation' effects. Most of us know our bodies pretty well, and we have a problem with the medical field telling us 'it is in our heads'....heck, I wish it were, than I could have a justified answer..I had the pain, now my sister had a seizure with a magnet field...hum....more investigating, and through science as the medical profession is scratching their heads. And as you see, the first posting was what, six years ago. And yes, a BOLD decision...different strokes, for different folks...thank you infj123...Happy New Year to All...

We have all been searching for answers. When I looked back at the first posting, what, like 6 years ago....and still no answer...well, I think us with 'common sense' can figure it out. It is just to 'tell' the medical profession what 'can' happen to someone. As I went in with bells on because my family said, oh, there is nothing to it,,,,just like an x-ray. I am a healthy person and no ills before my knee issues...but, wow, all I wanted is for someone to explain what, and why...but all the answers I have read are hog wash....just a 'shot' in the dark...from 'water on the knee' to 'anxiety' being told to others...I only had one doc for my mother that said to me on her drug reaction that was unheard of....he said, 'I never say never' because the drug companies only have the 'basic' side effects and that is why you contact them to let them know....just like a 'recall'..........If enough of us don't say what can happen, all the 'junk' in the world would still be out there...so, all of us here are looking for 'someone' with the knowledge.....I say it the magnets....and see how powerful one of these machines really is, and some of us do have this 'reaction'....so medical field, just admit it and don't tell people it is in their heads,,,,ITS IN THE MAGNETS....bless you all...View Thread

Blaine,
So sorry this happened to you. You came to the right spot for questions, as most of us that have posted, had similiar issues with an MRI. We are all searching, as no doctor has come forward to explain all of this. Everyone will tell you 'it is just like an xray'....well, we are proof that it is not!...I felt the same way and the techs tell you, 'oh no that can't happen, you don't feel it'. YES we do. and realistically, someone should have been more aware of what you were going through to have that fall. AND you are right, no one warns you of these kind of happenings. The force of an MRI can pull in an automobile, that is how strong it is. Me, I won't have another one. Yes, that is all they ask, 'do you have metal'....some one at that hospital should have wheeled you in a wheel chair when we get that groggy. period....wishing you well...and our mission is to find the answers!!View Thread

We the people here, have been looking for answers, that is why we came to join the rest who have had the same issues. No one has had the right answers for us. It is not fear of the MRI, as they are a very important health factor, my husband needed them for his 'cancer tracking'. He had no issues what so ever. Every one I know that has had an MRI, came out just like if they had an x-ray. So when I had mine for my knee, it was NOT the case. So I was searching someone like myself. I know everyone is different in their 'pain' tolerance. But that's okay. and the nerves. thats okay too, it can happen. But myself, I was stunned to feel what I did, and with no answers. That is all we are searching for, an answer. Some has to have the answer. My own doctor through another test she did to me asked me one time 'how did you tolerate my test for nerve damage' as she had to be the 'patient' for a training seminar...I respected her for that, cause than she 'felt' what I felt. This is all we want from someone who went through what we have. And it does happen. I had an injection in my knee so I would not feel what I did the first time around,,,that did not help either. Me, I felt like someone was pulling out my knee cap. All I want to know is why. Still haven't found what I am looking for...thank you for listening....View Thread

is great, as that is all we want, is someone who is caring and maybe listen, we might know what we are talking about...all of this reminds me of when my son had to have stitches in his mouth, the tech said, 'that don't hurt, we gave you pain medication, what are you crying for?'....how did he know,,,,as I had surgery and the meds did not work, and I passed out from the knife cut. I think that is all we want here, as I see it happens to more people than I even thought. If you have ever seen the pics of a forklift pulled into one of the MRI machines, you could see just how powerful they are. But this does not happen to all...so all of this has to make the rest of us wonder why...View Thread

Yes, sellersburgmom, you are right on the blood supply. But, all of us felt more than slight pain. We all could have handled that. But we are talking about extreme pain and no one has the right answer... especially when the tech tells you 'you don't feel anything'....we all just want an intelligent answer; as one doc told me, he never says never. That was the best answer I have had so far..cause he did not know. Just say you don't know. Don't look at the rest of us like we have lost our marbles... There must be a reason, but the medical field 'has no answer cause they do not know'. Someone has to have some knowledge. Don't just brush us under the carpet. You would think some medical expert would have some sense, as to me, they are the ones that need to look for the 'marble'.....View Thread

With all of our technology, you would think someone would have an answer for us; those of us who have experienced these painful MRI's.....And everyone has said the same, 'the tech looked at me like I was crazy'.....AS for myself, I have a very high tolerance for pain. Had tonsils out and the anestetic did not work, had three C-sections awake...so I know about pain. So don't look at me like I am an idiot, as I felt the knife of surgery.....LISTEN to us.
I felt that same tugging and pulling on my knee that was being MRI'd....My mom had many of MRI's and she was the one that told me, 'just lay there, it is just like an xray'....well, did I get the surprise of my life. NOT....I even got a shot to numb my whole leg as I could not straighten it due to my knee injury....so why did I still feel like my knee cap was being pulled out of my leg?..........as you see, we are not the ones with it all in our 'head'....and don't tell me cause of the 'water' maybe on the knee cap. My son had water on the knee cap and did not get the same reaction....so the mystery continues.....but still no one has an answer....View Thread

Painfull MRI's

We patients need answers on this discussion. Any medical pros who might know what we are all talking about? I have read a few answers,
like, water on the knee could hurt during an MRI. No, my son has water on the knee, you can see it when he puts ice on it....you can see the water freeze inside like little ice cubes. He had an MRI with no pain. My mom had MRI's all her life and never had issues. She was the one that told me, 'oh, don't worry, it is just like an x-ray. NOT. For me, and I have a high tolerance of pain,,,example, awake during surgery and the pain meds did not take, felt the knife...so you can't say I don't take pain well....SO why does an MRI hurt? Again, mine was like you were pulling my knee cap off. Not a good feeling. And everyone on this post is right......'oh, you only have a few minutes left, it is all in your head.' No, it has to have a reason. period. I won't go for another one. I had no contrast, no dye injection. Just a good ol fashion MRI that hurt so bad, I wanted to crawl out. So any more brain storms medical profession? other than, 'this does not happen'....Not a good answer. That is the reason I got onto this discussion board, our communation can be the finding factor. Who knows more than people who have a life experience to get to the bottom of it all....thanks for listening.
