I thought because I had a vaginal hysterectomy, a pap smear wouldn't be needed again. But after reading if you've had HPV, 'the doctor collects a sample from the vaginal cuff, the area in the upper vagina where the cervix was once located' to see if there is active HPV. I had HPV over 20 yrs ago. It was treated - conization, LEEP, cryosurgery, laser - with normal pap smears until my hysterectomy in 2000. The hysterectomy was not for cervical cancer. My Dr says I don't need a pap or HPV testing because I don't have a cervix. What's the likelyhood of HPV coming back and should I have a pap?View Thread
